I think sometimes that's a good thing, and sometimes it's not. It reminds me a little of Hootie and the Blowfish, to make a weird comparison--Darius Rucker's voice really works for their songs, but sometimes you want something that doesn't sound exactly the same.

Haven't heard that, but never know. So far they've mostly canned their regular beers: Cosmo Pale Ale, Bernie Milk Stout, M-Punk Red Ale, & their sour series. This was the first I had both the Peach & Gummy IPAs, and both were delicious (especially loved the peach).

Right now, only available via Crowler and probably Growler (along with tap room drafts).

Nope. Maybe down the line but it wouldn't be for a while.

I have to second both of these comments. I just cracked a crowler of Funny Gummy for the games and it's delicious. It still has a little bitterness which I appreciate in some of the attempts at this style. My brother and I both agree that it tastes somewhat similar to super fresh Born Yesterday.....I might even say I like it better. We'll be cracking Right Next to the Peach Boyeee soon to compare.

When did you pick up the peach? I stopped in around 1 and it wasn't on tap any longer.

Wow I'm surprised it went so quick. I went Friday after work probably around 615-630. I just finished the Right Next to the Peach Boyeee and it was really good but I like Funny Gummy better. The peach is really nice in the beer but I prefer straight hops!

I got a crowler of both around 5:30 last night.

I was in today early afternoon, however they were out of Right Next to the Peach Boyeeeee. Got a crowler of Funny Gummy, seems they both were selling well this weekend.

Decided to crack open my last can of Reply Hazy, for science. Here it is:

I will say, when I first filled the glass, it was completely clear, and tasted like a Belgian when I took a sip. I drank a little more to make space for the rest of the can, and when I finished the can off, a bunch of yeast fell into the glass, making it look like it does in the pic above. Not as strongly hopped as my first can, but not that different from my second, so it doesn't look like this one fell off that badly.

Not amazing, but perfectly good to drink still, which is a good sign.

Got a rare Saturday off work this past weekend, so the gf and I decided to head to Noon Whistle for the afternoon. The Funny Gummy I thought had a nice hazy color, very little bitterness and had good flavor but wasn't a big "juice bomb." I still thought it was a good NE Style IPA and worth a try. The Right Near the Peach Boyee smelled fantastic, like fresh peaches. Had a nice peach zing to it, too. The gf and I liked it better than Funny Gummy, so much so that I got a crowler of it and she got 2 crowlers.

Stopped by Capone's this weekend and picked up a pack of Stratus. Somehow forgot to check the date when I was there; the latest release was 12/21, so that was the can date. Fortunately it's still tasting great. On appearance, it's every bit a hazy, murky, cloudy NE IPA and the taste isn't far off.. Will definitely be buying more of those on the next release. Really surprised there are a lot left at Capone's, honestly.

The Hailstorm stuff flies under the radar, for some reason. The ones I've had have been very solid, but there always seems to be a "new" NE-style beer coming out, so maybe the returning ones don't have as much cachet.

I cracked the Marz NE style IPA last night and have to say I was pretty let down. The nose was great - very juicy, but that was about it. It did not have that juicy/hazy/opaque appearance - in fact it look just unfiltered - and the feel was much closer to a classic IPA - it lacked any of the full bodied thickness you get from these NE style. Taste was, again, too bitter for the style and closer to a classic west coast styled IPA. Overall, it really just didn't fit to the style well at all.

Also got to have Noon Whistle's Funny Gummy and Right near the Peach - both were very good and had the appearance/feel down for the style. Funny Gummy wasn't as juicy as some of the other examples of the style, but it was still really good. Right near the peach was great - definitely juicy although I found it a bit too sweet for my tastes - but thats a minor quibble. Really good offerings from Noon Whistle and certainly a solid contribution to the lineup of NE style beers in Chicagoland.

That's interesting; I had the exact opposite reaction to the beer (although I agree that the look was more in line with a standard "unfiltered" beer). The interesting thing is that the first batch (tap only) was way more NE-looking, and slightly less NE-tasting, to me (I think I preferred the first batch).

I guess this is yet another beer that we have to chalk up to the relative inexperience of Chicago breweries with the style (in terms of getting consistent results).

I never had it on draft, so I don't know how it compared. I did roll my bottle before opening since that tends to agitate any yeast (a common issue with these beers - especially the Mikerphone ones). I tend to agree that its probably due to the inexperience with the style. I'll be curious to see how future batches come out.

I'm waiting for Hubbards Cave to brew Batch v4 again. I never got a chance to try Juicy from Ram but other than that I think Hubbards Cave v4 is the best IMO to come out of Chicagoland.
