I'm actually pretty disappointed......I had Iron Fist on tap the other night at Urban Family, in fact it's still pouring there....the only thing on the Brouwers list that interests me is Spiked Hop Venom.

I'm having trouble finding a way to be dissapointed about a beer list with 45 things I want to drink on it.

I would agree that there are few rare beers on this list --- which I think is more a testament to the great access we have here in the PNW than Brouwer's putting together a lame list. But I'm not one to go chasing rare beers. The best thing about HopFest IMO is not getting access to rare beers but access to a ton of hop-bombs all in one place. I know we can get almost all of these on tap around Seattle, but it's nice to have them in one location.

Aside from the Spiked Hop Venom, I'm most definitely looking forward to the return of Fremont Cowiche Canyon Fresh Hop. I'd also like to try Elysian/Ninkasi Hop Squash Pumpkin.

The whole nature of the fest (hop-driven beers) kind of rules out the rare-beer access since you can't have a bunch of vintage IPA's or things you've collected over the course of the year. Hopefully this means I will have no issue with a Thursday evening dinner arrival.

It's a Brouwers event man, it's gonna be a good time, but as I'm sure you know, I'd count on a line.

I wonder if the move to a Thursday beginning might limit the lines on the first day.

I can't ever remember a line to get into Hopfest the past few years, but maybe I just timed things right. Back in Black fest was practically a ghost town...

Yeah possibly, I took the day off to go to Back in Black, and there was a line at 10:30, but that was a Friday so I think a lot of people just took a long weekend. Hopefully Thursday afternoon won't be too crazy.

What hoppy beers would you rather have seen? Black raven didn't have their dipa, founders said no, bells said no, cigar city said no. You aren't going to find hill farmstead or three Floyd's. What should have been on tap that would have been less disappointing?

Did the Bad Boy cask ever wind up getting tapped? Today was the first time I've ever had cask Duet and it was awesome! As was the Logsdon Fresh Hop Seizoen.

I tried to get a glass of the Bad Boy but they couldn't get the firkin to pour. I left about 10 pm and it still wasn't working.

My favorites: Fremont Cowiche Canyon Fresh Hop, Beachwood Hop Ninja DIPA, Fort George Fresh Hop OPA (super danky), and Lagunitas Fusion 10.

Not my favorites: Black Raven Mosaic Fresh Hop (underwhelming compared to the other fresh hops), Laurelwood Dry Hopped Gearhead (weird vegetal flavors, almost no aroma)

Biggest question: What made Boneyard Spiked Hop Venom spiked? Tasted just like regular old, but damn tasty Hop Venom.

This is also something that I really wanna know. I was talking to some of the bartenders and none of them knew either.

They added isomerized hop extract to a batch of Hop Venom. Tony mentioned this at the Little Woody Fest when I was in Bend a few weeks ago, saying they weren't going to mess with any fresh hops this year, but agreed to make a "special" version of Hop Venom with more IBU using hop extract.

For what it's worth, he also mentioned that Hop Venom now lands around 8% ABV, instead of the 10% ABV original.....

Anyone try the Reuben's Rye IPA? I wasn't at the fest but noticed it was on the list. They have been getting good press lately.

This is almost exactly what I had, plus the Bad Boy.

Those are some pricey 12oz pours, at least by Portland standards. Are those typical prices for Brouwer's? Only been once...

Let's all move to Portland and save at least 7 nickels!!

Actually, more curious about whether those are normal prices for Brouwer's, when I was there they seemed reasonable for prices. Just wondering whether they are pulling a "lets call it a 'fest' and charge a bunch more" thing? Why do you have to be a dick about it anyway?

In dirtylou's defense, we regularly get the "Wow, prices sure are high in the big city" refrain from Portland folks.
