Yeah, I think this is the crux of the problem. I hate this concept (grabbing a beer, and then jumping back in line), so I typically won't do it.

And as a result, I get no Dark Lord variants on tap. :grinning:

Will definitely have to re-evaluate this year.

I heard from a reliable source that Hot Garbage is going to be a main variant this year.

Banana peel, onion skin, beef drippings, and tampon.

That should cut right through the soy sauce.

From what I've heard... people doing this "jump back in line and wait for a big beer" leads to a huge cluster f#ck? People just end up getting to the front and letting people skip them so they can wait for the perfect beer. Then they can come on ba and list all those amazing beers.

Guess you shouldn't always believe what you hear? Alt facts...

I don't know if that's how people do it at DLD, but I've definitely seen that happen at other beer fests.

Well to be honest we all try to do this, and once the volunteers realize we are just camping in line waiting for something to tap, they tell you to get out and so a cluster just where the line should begin forms.

Been the past 3 years and I've never jumped back in line to wait for a beer and I've seen plenty of BA stuff and tried them. Guest taps are your best bet and like others have said you go to the area with the shortest lines then most the time they'll go down and grab you what you want. If I ask for something not in front of me I try at least be a couple spots down from it and stay within my tent. I would also say the #1 factor in the past 2 years with complaints about taps was the weather. I would put money on it being the reason FFF guaranteed allotments last year because the prior year so many skipped on their dark lords and left. This last year people hung around longer to get their beers but the weather still impacted the amount of beer consumed and sold at tents and I'm sure food as well. I think that's why they bit the bullet and moved the date back because they were losing out on potential earnings with the weather conditions being so poor. I fully expect this year to be busier than any of the past years I've attended even if it rains with temps being higher. Hopefully the taps will continue to turn at a higher rate with more peiple sticking around.

They could also, maybe, just possibly, think about having an indoor venue, or at least fucking gigantic ass tent instead of a couple moderate-sized ones, most of which were meant for the volunteers.

I mean I live in NE Ohio where we get about 2 months of enjoyable weather a year, I know how these things go. To try to host an outdoor festival this time of year in Munster is Russian roulette, not that the Dark Lord would disapprove.

One of your tickets for beer is a variant included in the price. First come first serve reward the people that get there early, everyone gets a taste of a variant.

I think they should build a complex just for Dark Lord Day. It can have 40 entrances to make getting in faster. When you buy your ticket they should ask you your top 5 dream beers and when you enter they are all waiting for you at your assigned seat. They should make each variant at a 1:1 ratio to each ticket sold then when everyone has gotten their variant they should smash the remaining bottles so that the variants given out can keep some sort of rarity. The food should be delivered to you by drone and be included in the ticket price. NO LINES!

With as much as 3 Floyds charges for a ticket this is all doable. They could even use the complex for other events and make extra money that way.

DLD definitely needs more drone food drops.

Crazy, I have never been but always see people checking in multiple variants throughout the day. So basically the chance of trying Handjee that day on tap is slim to none?

BTW, opened my 2016 Handjee this evening. Did not disappoint. Wow. Will be trying for tickets again this year. The bottle shares alone made the trip worthwhile. The Handjee made it special.

Not sure how often they tap it, but I've had it multiple fests after the power crowd has died out.

I've had it multiple times multiple years. There is no order that I know of for when it is on though I do remember it staying on for a while in the evening. If you want to try it, it will be on at some point, most likely.

It would be kinda nifty if they had a variant tent and you got a pour or two included with your ticket. I feel like they did that with baller stout at the xv party but I may be mistaken

Yup, venue on Amon Amarth's website for 5/13 indeed says Dark Lord Day. That is going to be bad ass!
