Hey all, With the holiday season coming folks in my family are starting to think about christmas gifts. I recently found 3F Oude Geuze Golden Blend at a local shop in California, and was able to score 2 bottles for 27$ a peice. Belgium in a box has a boxset that is 6 bottles of Golden Blend w/ a Free 3F Geuze Glass. After Calculating the shipping and everything it came to 157$ USD So the way I see it is Im getting 6 bottles, and a Glass for 157 as opposed to just 6 bottles for 162 + tax. Do you guys think this is a fair price? I know it its only six beers, but it is 6 GREAT beers. Any info is appreciated. I just do not want a Loved one to get ripped off Buying me a gift. Thanks for the time!
The problem with ordering from Belgium is that you've got to get a large order in to make shipping worth it. I think you overpaid for the bottles that you got in CA. I've heard of it being available in other places for $12-15. It's a great beer, for sure, but I'm not sure it's $27/375ml bottle great.
Seems like a fair price based on the numbers. That said, I'd love to see one of my family members faces when they spend $27 on a single bottle of Gueuze for me. That would be an entertaining reaction. As an aside, you could buy a lot of Cantillon from être at that same price.
That doesn't look quite right. According to this thread, the price is between $22-30 in the states. Are you thinking of the [regular] oude gueuze? OP: If you're looking for more Golden Blend, I think you're on the right track. I certainly don't think your loved ones would be getting ripped off, although Golden Blend is very costly per ounce after import or shipment from Belgium. If you order a couple of more bottles, it'll bring the price down a few dollars per bottle, since the shipping cost changes at certain weights. The same thing goes for a mixed order on etre gourmet—if you order, try to "maximize" the cost of shipping. Of course, if your loved ones/family members are making the purchase, expanding the order may be difficult and/or impracticable.
No, I was thinking of the Golden Blend. I must have been quoting wholesale prices then. That's my bad. Thanks for calling me out on that. OP: I still stand by what I said. I agree with Verecund. The more bottles you can get, the better. Personally, I try to get 12-15 750ml in on each order to justify shipping. Prices/bottle are a little bit more reasonable this way.
If you order from Etre Gourmet you can ship 16 375mL bottles for 78 euro. That works out to about $18 per bottle of Golden Blend.
I just bought a bottle of Golden Blend today for 24.99. Steep, but holding it for a special occasion not a daily drinker.
I was at a sour tasting at one of the local bars/eateries here (Well, in southern Indiana) and they had this. One of my friends at the table bought a bottle of it and shared. It is really really good. I mean, the regular 3F is stellar but this is a whole new level. Truly amazing. Worth the price? I bought one. So I guess I would have to say yes. It was $21.99 here in town (Louisville).
