Either Hop Butcher or Transient taking over that spoace would benefit Chicago. Aquanaught is the low man on the totempole between those 3

Seems like a stretch since he's just a year or so into his brewery in Michigan. But, maybe those $20 4-packs really pumped up his cash flow! I KID, I KID!!!!

Can anyone confirm what base beer was used for this recent release of BA Neckbeard? Wondering if it was last years w/ cinnamon and coconut.

Neckbeard is the same basic stout recipe with different adjuncts each year. Last year was molasses, coconut, cinnamon. This year is coffee and vanilla bean.

The BA version was last year's stout, minus the adjuncts, put into a barrel, and then this years adjuncts were added towards the end.

So technically it's this years adjuncts, but the base stout is a year older.

I asked Dave at beer cellar the same thing, as I was confused also.

Yeh I asked that at beer cellar too. What I learned (kinda knew before but hadn't thought it through as much) - brewers add adjuncts after barrel aging is done

I think the base Stout was tweaked a bit also for this year, but I could be mis-remembering that part of the conversation.

It was. Can't remember how, but I do remember Chris mentioning that

Wow, you did call it. Although not mentioned in the article, I hope Chris isn't barrel aging any of the IL member beers here & if he is that they aren't impacted (ie he can take the barrels to Hailstorm or one of the other breweries he has a good relationship with). Probalby means that the IL members party needs a new venue this year though....

This would probably interest folks in the NE IPA thread as well since it impacts Hop Butcher.

What kind of fines are they looking at for operating 5 months without one?

    Were they operating?

Didn't they brew the latest Juice is Loose during that time?

Just to be clear we are talking about Aquanaut, Transient hasn't done anything wrong. Transient wasn't one of the brewers listed in the article, though people in this thread said they were brewing in that space as recently as December. I wouldn't expect fines for any of the licensed brewers who are using Aquanaut's space, but given I get taxed 7 cents for a plastic bag in Chicago , I would imagine operating a brewery for 5 months without appropriate license as Aquanaut has done would generate a considerable fine. If sizeable enough, that could impact their business significantly, especially if the other brewers paying to utilize their space decide to take their business elsewhere.

Just to also be clear, I was answering @jlsims04; he asked if Aquanaut was operating while their license was expired, and my point was that I thought they were responsible for brewing the Chicago batch of JIL (unless Transient brews it, but uses Aquanaut equipment? I don't know the specifics of their agreement).

Also, how are people doing business with Tadros at this point?

JIL and Cromulent will be available tomorrow.

Obligatory and Flightless are on deck, and for my money, the 2 best hoppy beers Transient makes.

All this talk of trendy NE IPA's has me itching for some actual Reserve Society news & some funky barrel aged beers.....

@TransientArtisanAles any upcoming news for IL members or can you share your target timelines for a release? Are you still thinking multiple releases like was mentioned at the start of the period? Maybe a members only can release or advanced purchase option for a future can release?

I love what you are doing at the brewery & totally appreciate you keeping the IL society going.

I really enjoyed Exsqueeze me, but man Obligatory is so damn good. I really wish this was available more often.
