An IPA doesn't have to look like a milkshake to have tropcal fruitiness, and as stated already, the turbid beers are often lacking in any notable flavor. I have found many of their aromas to be nice, though.

Yes, turbid IPA's remind me of dirty dishwater.

I guess what chaps my ass is when people make remarks about how a beer "Looks so delicious" due to how turbid it is. What does that have to do with it? Or, when someone comments that they're only looking for hazy IPA's. Not speaking about you, specifically. I am just speaking in general.

I acknowledge that haze doesn't equal teh frootz! For example, a few Lagunitas have almost tricked me into thinking I was having a Trillium, if not for the clarity.

I think a poorly made NE style IPA is too yeast forward, and can often have an unusual harsh sting on the tongue, which is far different than an overly bitter West Coast style IPA which also lashes the tongue in its own unique way.

If that harsh yeast bite is happening, I don't think they've nailed the style appropriately. Even if the reviews might look stellar on whatever beer your referencing, you'll often find a lot of people complaining about the sting in brewery or beer style targeted boards.

I hear you, sometimes haze looking delicious doesn't make sense. However, every once in a while, a neon orange glowing orb can be mesmerizing :stuck_out_tongue:

I'm talking about the stuff from Treehouse, Trillium and every other beer like that I have had... there are very few exceptions. I also reject the term 'NE IPA'. It's almost as dumb as when a bunch of Florida homers tried to claim fruited beliners were invented in the South.

I've never heard Floridians claim an entire style like New England has the hazy and juicy IPA. And who's to say they gave them that moniker themselves--I'm not sure they did. To them, it was just that tasty new beer the folks in Vermont were cooking up.

You may think NE style IPA sounds dumb, but do you also then reject the term West Coast style IPA? I think these styles are extremely different from each other, and neither are reflective of the original India Pale Ale.

In any case, this has been debated at great length in other forums here, and it's quite an interesting debate. When Hill Farmstead and Alchemist changed the entire landscape, and Lawsons, Trillium, Tree House, followed suit, then breweries all across the country and the world tried to mimic it, I think New England has a rightful claim.

The history may be debatable, and quite unique, such as casks being dry hopped for delivery to pubs in old England during a certain period, and the yeast strain also potentially being from that regian, but that fell out of favor for quite a long time, and NE created the true craze.

The Florida thing was real, but may have been before your time. Also, the commentary and debate was on another site.

Yes, NE IPA is silly, at least to me. Brewers have been brewing cloudy IPAs, intentionally and unitentionally, for a long time. Just because some beer geeks started standing in line for the stuff doesn't elevate it above anything else.

As far as West Coast IPA goes, it's pretty much where the style started in this country. But in any case, I don't really put any IPA in a box in terms of flavor or appearance. If it's hoppy and tastes good, that's enough for me, man.

I think the "New England" ipas are amazing IMO.

I recently had a aslin DDH neutrino that looked like pure mango purée but the taste was nothing to be desired. I do think the haziness and aroma can trick your mind into tasting something that's not all there

That Lagunitas 'Born Yesterday' that was out a couple months ago was 'hazy' and boy was it delicious!

Yeah Chillwave was at the end of March/April last year. Thinking they moved the release up to make way for Hop Madness in April.

I am not usually one of the "last year was better" guys (except for Draggonsaddle since HH ruined it) because I know my taste buds have changed over the last 4-5 years, but I just didn't get any pop out of those Mosaic hops. Seemed drowned out by more honey sweetness. I bought a case 2 years ago and didn't finish the 4 pack last. I will say that it was fine on tap. Like Oktoberfest. Those bottles were garbage

Something up with GLBC bottling? I always thought there was a glaring difference between them and draft.

BTW, anyone see the new Heine Light commercial--featuring Cascade hops! :grinning:

There are definitely the people that will only drink "hazy" IPAs, etc now, but there are also the people that will only drink "clear" beer too. Even if the beer is supposed to have a certain level of haze (Hefeweizen), they still avoid it. You have silly people on either side haha.
