January is biting hard with the old finances
I mean, a week on Saturday is my Birthday
but a week on Tuesday it's payday :grimacing:
Luckily beer super hero Zimbo has sent two cans of RIS to make my anniversaire Bon
but I need some beer to prove I'm not doing Dryanuary & settle my nerves after an internal interview.
So polising of the Christmas beer
    Marston's Empire IPA
    & there's crap Portuguese lager
which is going to be turned into snakebite with some spending Scrumpy

Had a can of Chorlton Rakau/minstrel sour - rubbish sadly, a mess of a beer although if you like the smell of sauerkraut and the taste of turbo cider then you'll love it. Also had a few homebrews which were a lot better on every level, so that did my ego some good

Delighted that my son is going out with a girl at Uni in Glasgow. He stays there at the weekend, I pick him up at Kelvinbridge en-route to the football in Greenock and get to go to Valhalla's Goat on Great Western Rd. Today I bought..
Buxton - Wyoming Sheep Ranch - DIPA, typical flavours of the genre, but with an almost bubblegum? aftertaste.
Magic Rock - Big Dipper DIPA, massive tropical flavours, mainly pineapple, very nice.
Drygate - Double Orinoco Breakfast Stout, had the Orinoco Stout before and loved it, but to be honest, this was very similar although 2% stronger.
Cloudwater - BA Old Fashioned, star of the show for me tonight. Based on the cocktail of the same name this beer was full of massive citrus notes combined with the back note of the Bourbon barrel it's aged in. 8.3% and £15 for a 660ml bottle, but would definitely buy this again. As soon as I picked it up the guy in the shop said "Impressed mate, you'll love that", ended up blethering to him for 20 mins about places like Cantillon, Warpigs, Café Delirium, Brouwerij T'Ij, Il Santo Bevitore and other microbreweries/fantastic bars we had visited. Also we beat Falkirk in the Scottish cup...good times.

I didn't realise that Loch Ness brewery had gone bust, bit of a shame as their beers that I'd tried were pretty decent. Cairngorm have taken over the brand and will continue to brew them though

    Some nice beers recently:
Wylam Le Saisonnier - a really nice saison with lemon verbena and rosemary.
Wylam Clouds of What - better than Jakehead in my opinion. A brilliant, resinous old school West coast IPA.
Weird Beard Holy Hoppin' Hell DIPA - which I had on tap last May and it was probably my favourite beer of the year. This is bottled and made with slightly tweaked hops to a slightly higher abv, but I still thought it was great. At £2.79 it was a steal too.
Hepworth Old Ale - really nice dark mild style. Very quaffable.

Bottle of Williams Bros Re#Dial brewed for Aldi. Not a bad 4% lager as they go tbf to them.

Also long white cloud from tempest which is what I went in there to buy

Also got a peat smoked ale from loch lomond that was on their shelves, it's a pale one according to the blurb. I suspect they got it in for burns night

Tempest - Long White Cloud is Mrs. K's current go to beer when we're in Aldi. Not tried the Loch Lomond Peat Smoked Ale, but will pick a couple up on Thursday.

I usually dislike peat smoke in beers despite loving peaty whiskies, but this and I assume the cask version which is called Meg's Tail are both rather decent

And yeah long white cloud is a great beer

Supped a big Beck's last night with dinner. Followed by some serious beers:
Weird Beard Faithless Spreadsheet Ninja Black Pilsner, very nice, does what it says on the tin.
Weird Beard Something Something Dark side - very nice too. Like an aged imperial black IPA.
Omnipollo Hypnopompa, really good. Not a seriously decadent sweet thing, but a really dry and harmonious imperial stout, perfectly balanced. Ageing a few months was good for both this and the above.
Omnipollo/Buxton Rocky Road Ice Cream imperial stout. Basically alright but also a disappointing mess. Again not the decadent dessert I'd hope for, but also not as well balanced as the above. Decent cocoa, vanilla, sickly lactose sweetness, but not much more.

Got a couple of these and even though I was put off by the smell of Germoline, I actually liked them.
Forgot that Aldi (Scotland) also has Tempest - Farmhouse Ale, nice Saison style, but only 5.1%, really nice.

Just returned from SoCal. Missed out on a few places that I wanted to see, like Alesmith, but visited Ballast Point (Commander Bock, Root to Boots Biere de Garde, Sour Wench Blackberry Ale, Sea Monster Imp Stout, Manta Ray DIPA) and Stone (Liberty Station Lupulin Loop Mandarina Bavaria) and a few other beers like Societe's Apprentice and Modern Times' Protocosmos. Lots of good beer.

Also came home with some good stuff:
    Pizza Port Brewing: Swami's IPA
    Lagunitas: High-Westified BA Imp Stout
    Oskar Blues: TenFidy Imp Stout
    Port Brewing: Mongo DIPA
    Mother Earth: Hop Diggity DIPA

Another Saturday, another Morton victory (that won't last lol) another pick up/drop off in Glasgow's West End. Decided to try The Cave for a change this week, bought...

Founders - KBS, doubt anyone who's anybody on here hasn't tried this...fantastic,
Left Hand - Nitro Milk Stout, creamy, smooth, dark and excellent,
Affligem - Triple, love loads of Belgian beers and this is no exception, obvious pear flavour,
Chimay - Brune, see above with slightly less pear flavour.

Not doing this next weekend as Mrs. K is taking me out for a beertastic day in Glasgow in lieu of my birthday being during the following week and heading back to Prague, for said birthday the following week.

    My mind just wandered off
    from itself
    when I bored even myself
    with thoughts about beer

Right let's make it more practical
    Ticketybrew Dubbel
When I first had it the style, like many Belgian didn't sit well with Me
    Let's see if it's changed.
Unless someone wants to go into the full details of why Wales, Lancashire & tge West Midlands have a dark mild tradition?

My favourite beer from this past weekend was the thornbridge serpent. I've seen mixed responses to it, but I really enjoyed it, and I would definitely drink it again but not sure I would necessarily want to pay £15 for a bottle. A couple other interesting ones I had on keg were a banoffee dunkelweisse from tiny rebel and a gin barrel aged IPA from gigantic.
