Hey, all! I'll still be in and around this thread as we get closer, but I have some unfortunate news. I won't be able to share notes on a doppelbock since I'll be visiting some friends over the weekend. I'll may take notes on a doppelbock or two and share when the event starts  There is a chance I'll be going to a bar with friends later that night, and while they have a good tap list, that's compared to the rest of the bars in a town of 18,000. Haha. Cheers! I look forward to browsing back through this thread during commercials of the Super Bowl!

I got mine. In fact, I might cross-pollinate some Salvator on Throwback Thursday with the newbie doppelbocks waiting for that Saturday. :grimacing::grimacing::grimacing:

    You wouldn't!

Damn. I'll miss Throwback Thursday too! Dang robotics. Haha. Ohh, well. Today's beer was a throwback for me

Don't tell anyone, but that was my fallback plan for Throwback Thursday as well :rolling_eyes::sunglasses:. I happen to have a Salvator in the house and haven't had one in many many years...

    I would! :grinning:

But I've bought nothing yet for our next Throwback Thursday. Salvator would definitely qualify as a good throwback brew for me -- I started drinking that in 1995, almost 20 years before I got into "craft beer". I haven't had a Salvator in at least two years, which feels like 10 in "craft beer years". :stuck_out_tongue:

What was your throwback today? *runs off to WBAYDN to investigate*

Sweet! Is it an old bottle that's been aging or one purchased more recently?

Just picked it up for the Doppelbock thing, but I have two others as well .

For those curious, but not curious enough to check, it was Hopslam. It's the DIPA that got me into DIPAs

I'll try and enjoy either a bottle of Korbinian or Celebrator tomorrow night and write up some notes! Actually, I may save the Korbinian for my dad and I to drink during the Super Bowl. Doppelbocks are one beer style we can agree on. Cheers.

Aaaand, I'm going out to eat with my grandpa tomorrow night. May not be able to pre-review anything. Bummer. I did put something in the fridge just in case

    Life just got soooo busy!

Life gets busy, indeed. Enjoy the family time!

I've had a slight complication with my dumb dental implant thing, nothing major, but I'll likely skip the Throwback Thursday. At best maybe make a late night appearance. But I'm not missing the doppelbock tasting unless my mouth falls off. :stuck_out_tongue:

And we're 2 days away from the event!

Also, any suggestions for a beer we should do for a tasting next month?

Anybody ever get a soapy flavor from Troegenator? After I pour it into a glass and decant it for 10 or 20 mins, it's better, but freshly cracked, the malts have this soap bar-like flavor about them.

Not a specific beer suggestion, but another thread got me in the mood to do Witbiers. Maybe for the next Style tasting in the Spring.

Looking forward to this event! I've picked up more doppelbocks that I can possibly drink in one night, but plan to do my best.

As for future ones - I really like spotlighting a less popular style. Witbiers would be a good one. I'll throw out quads as a potential option - possibly appropriate for the colder months.

Congrats! Doppelbocks are tasty, so that's a good problem to have! Just make sure you both enjoy responsibly and share all of your tasting notes

I do like the idea of a quad tasting. I'll say that's highly likely in the later months of this year. I do want to use these style tastings to draw light away from the golden children (IPAs, Stouts, and Sours) and shine light on what else beer can be. I was thinking of doing an Amber for the next style tasting...? It'll be sort of in line with St. Pat's and Easter. I like the idea of a Witbier tasting as well.

Oh I love the style - I used this event as an excuse to buy a bunch of ones I hadn't had in a while.

As for Amber ales ... I enjoy a good old amber ale, but I feel like thats a style where the most popular representations are nothing more than red IPAs.

We might have to do these tastings more often... I propose every other week (twice a month).

I wouldn't mind another couple a year outside of the one a month schedule, it's just one a month provides the perfect time frame for folks to trade and otherwise try and acquire a beer or more for the tasting. I also feel it's a little like pulling teeth trying to arrive at a particular beer tasting. Styles come a little bit easier. So if we wanted to bring these around more often, we may just need to strike up a comity to pick a beer/style, or otherwise I can make the executive decision

Really looking forward to this. Have Celebrator and Bell's Consecrator on hand already, but all the mentions of Salvator have me thinking of picking up one on Saturday. It was the first doppelbock I ever tried but it's been years since I've had one. No time like the present! :grinning:

I was thinking maybe 1 style and 1 specific beer tasting a month could be good just to squeeze more in the timeframe. It is hard to work it out for everybody though.

That's true. There is certainly a balance between hosting too many, and not hosting enough. With a good hearty supply of tastings, it doesn't feel as bad if you can't make one. I'm still all for it. If we really want to push this further, we could get together a small group to discuss future events. The Online Tastings Idea thread really dried out quickly, with everyone throwing out an idea, but not much more discussion.
