If I had a group of friends that would make the wait fun, I would certainly wait in line with them for a highly anticipated beer. Never done it before, but it sounds like it could be a fun time.

I've personally never waited in a line but have made it a point to be at a local bottle shop when a "hyped up" beer (IPA) is scheduled to arrive so that I could first get it and secondly drink it as fresh as possible. I've also been able to, with much excitement, get a 6 pack of bottled beer from a brewery and drink it the same day as the bottle date (Zombie Dust). Whether or not a week changes the "freshness" of an IPA I really cannot say but I personally take pleasure in drinking an IPA as fresh as possible.

I also can imagine waiting in a line and sharing the excitement with others about the beer we all are excited to get although I've never experienced it. It would/could be a fun, "living in the moment" experience to attend such an event.

The great thing about our culture is that we all have the freedom to choose what we like and don't like. Let's make sure to remember that we can, with confidence, voice our opinions and at the same time accept and agree that the rest of our world can do the same without receiving judgement....

Whether I would wait in line depends at what's at the other end. If they were selling cases of KBS, Prairie Pirate BOMB, Rum BA Fidy, BCBS, or other excellent cult beers, I'd wait in line an hour. Those beers are not available in quantity here so this would be quite an opportunity. Don't think I'd wait in a line too long for a new release unless there was reasonable certainty it would be worth it.

So, you prefer old IPAs to fresh ones?

Buy a 6 pack of your favorite IPA, the freshest you can get. Drink 1 every 2 weeks and make detailed tasting notes. Do this without having eating anything that will jack up your taste buds. You can decide for yourself. All IPA's are not created the same, some age better than others. To me Jai Alai is one that I haven't had much luck with, get it fresh and drink it fresh. There is a Pale Ale out of Louisiana called Envie, I found one in the back of my fridge that had a good 5 months on it and it was still a damned fine drinker. The other 5 had been drank over a 3 month period with no noticeable degradation. I find that most of the well made beers age consistently if you get them fresh and put them in the fridge.

The longest I've ever waited in line for a beer was about half an hour and I think that's about my top limit for how long I'd be willing to wait in line for a beer.
But I don't hold it against the people who do. We all have the same amount of hours in a day, and I'm sure they'd choose to spend their time differently than I do.

100 people would take probably 10- 15 minutes to take care of if it's organized.
