For anybody who liked the Noon Whistle offerings:

I'm sitting in here now, and they're putting a new one on next week. He said it's made with Simcoe and a ton of Citra, and unless I'm mistaken I think he said ground maize as well.

I'll definitely be checking this one out.

Better question is, who cares?!? If you can get paid to drink, more power to ya, man.

You should see the "filing" cabinets where I work. If the top drawer doesn't contain a bottle of tequila it's seen as an oddity.

Anyway, I'm interested to see what the cornmeal does to this style. I'm almost positive that's what he said was added in

That's the combo. Thanks for writing it down! Kind of an odd mix, which I think is why I think for me it's good, but not mind-blowing. Though for $10 per crowler, it's a pretty decent deal to be able to take home and enjoy.

I know others have replied already, but I'll add to the discussion. I opened my crowler last weekend and when I popped it...it seriously reeked of peaches and feet. To the point where I passed it around and my wife, my sister-in-law, and her boyfriend all thought I was playing a joke (all 3 drink beer and typically enjoy stuff I recommend for them, but they are much more casual drinkers). I poured a little out for each to try (as they eyeballed me to make sure I wasn't punking them and giving them some new sweatsock-infused IPA) and all 3 liked it. It smelled awful out of the gate, but ended up tasting like what I had on draft. And as it warmed a bit, all 4 of us got a lot more of the peach coming through and I won them back.

So the tl;dr version is I can see where you're coming from when first opening, but ultimately it was almost identical to what I had on draft.

    Crowlers are tricky things.

Any beer poured from a tap should be consumed ASAP. If the beer doesn't taste like you wanted it to, it's on you. I know people have been lucky with long term storage of crowlers and growlers but that doesn't mean it's to be expected. To me it's a risk. The faster you drink it, the lesser the risk.

I don't think "it's on you" if the beer is a day or two old, I think at that point there's an issue somewhere along the line (tap lines, crowler seal, etc.). Not saying the brewer owes you anything, necessarily, but I think it's unreasonable to say that if you don't drink the growler as soon as you get it into the house, it's your fault if it tastes bad.

The thing with crowlers is that it really depends on who is doing the filling & sealing. There was a place I used to go where my rule was "don't ask the curly-haired brunette for a crowler." I don't know what it was, but every crowler I got from her seemed "off" if I waited more than a day or two before drinking. Never had a problem with any other crowler from that place, not even with the hoppy beers. They'd easily keep for 3 weeks with little noticeable change. Unfortunately, there's no way to know until you drink it. Basic beer rules still apply: if it tastes off, let the place know because maybe it's something that can be addressed.

I agree with your general point about beer in any growler/howler/crowler format being drunk ASAP. But Im not sure that if it tastes "off" its completely on the consumer. My past problems with beer in those formats that wasn't drunk ASAP was never off flavors but lack of carbonation. "Off flavors" - especially one that is being picked up as butter could be indicative of an actual issue (diacetyl) with the beer.

Anybody have any info on roughly when this will be released? I couldn't tell from the FB posts whether or not it had already been brewed.

It says "upcoming collab" so my assumption was that they hadn't actually brewed it yet, but it's also possible he just meant "upcoming release." That'd be a slightly stranger use of the wording, though.

Totally agree with your interpretation but was thrown off that they'd already be working on artwork for a beer that hasn't been brewed. But maybe that's not uncommon. What the hell do I know anyway, I just drink the beer.

The labeling has to be submitted for government approval before it's used. Wouldn't want to brew a beer like that then have it sit around while waiting for the label to clear red tape. There are many websites where people leak labels that have been submitted for approval so we can know what's coming down the pipe. KBS bomber bottles is a great example of that.

Does anyone have any insight as to how Transient releases usually go? I'm considering a 2 hour 20 minute drive for some JiL tomorrow, but it seems risky if I can't be there before 4.
