This is why the trade forums on BA are a waste of time.

I totally agree. However, I was more speaking of peoples' desperation to trade for beer that they could have gotten if they waited in line. I'm one of the good guys.. (100% | 69)

I don't know if I trade or not, and I definitely don't ever think of a beer's value, but I do send beer to people and they also send me some. This is my favorite way to find out about beers that I may never see.

Only times I stood in line for beer were the multiple times I attended the GABF.

While I agree waiting in line behind the hoards of beer befuddled buffoons can be a trial in and of itself, there is a certain pleasure to be had knowing you are one of the first to sip from a limited release ale that the rest of the boneheaded population has yet to toss down their gullet. I always make my presence known at every 'bottle release' party by belching out loudly praise for the liquid masterpiece that whatever brewer has conjured up this time. I suggest ruminating on the taste your mouth is about to behold while waiting with the sheep herd and then educating yourself on it's properties in order to really appreciate what your tongue is about to experience. Always worth it I say good sir! So go back out there and get in that line, ignore the sheeples and remain proud that you yourself are Beer-ducated enough to know that you're still better than those turkeys drinking Bud Light at the superbowl!

I'll be there bright n' early Saturday morning as well. Another year in the books! One of my only "must do" beer events of the year.

All right! Beer evangelism. I love it. Elmer Gantry meets Pliny the Elder.

I don't think anyone is saying that your thoughts are incorrect...

I think they are saying that they don't really care that you don't. Or at least that's what I'm saying

Or, as Jesse Helms said in his radio show days: "You don't have to drink beer, smoke dope and engage in illicit sex to make a fool of yourself, but it helps".

Whenever I read something like this, I think, "that's not how that works." At least not for me. There is, in fact, a local bottle shop that will hold something limited for me, or at least let me know when it's coming in. But it's not because I'm "schmoozing" them--it's because I'm a regular customer (I probably spend half of my beer money there) and take some time for friendly conversation. It's a lot less sleazy than you're making it sound.

What's with the waiting in line. Why don't you just drop off your chair to hold your spot

Being a loyal customer and moderately friendly hardly tips the sleaze meter in my book.

Perzactly. Being nice, open, and forthright is what beer and retail communion has always been about.

I'll be there closer to 5:30am. I'll look for the Raider parkas. Weather calls for light rain, so be prepared! 2:30am.... Damn! Bring a pillow.

Maybe in California but in Illinois there is certainly "schmoozing" for limited releases, especially at the chain type stores like Binny's.
