Short's Brewing Releases & Updates (2018)

They need to make Psychedelic Cat Grass around longer.....I have had a hinkering for that since I drank my last one last September.....It's one of the few beers I will crack some heads to get.

 

I bought a 6er of S'mores Stout today. Are the floatys normal? I think it was graham crackers?

Is that the best place to travel to if I'm coming from Chicago? I need to try some Shorts.

 

Short's now distributes to Illinois and Indiana, so you should be able to find some beers there, but not every batch release of beer is distributed outside of Michigan. For a more complete selection, Barney's in New Buffalo is certainly the closest good Michigan store to Chicago since New Buffalo is located right in the southwest corner of Michigan. Bud & Elsie's is a c-store just a couple blocks down the street as a second choice, but I have not been there for a while to know if they are still good. (Bud & Elsie's is shown on a Google map as Buffalo Mini-Mart.)

 

Gonna pile on to the Hopstache love, because it's without question my favorite Short's beer. And yeah, I think it's fair to say it's the best grapefruit IPA available. Grapefruit Sculpin is a reeeeeeal close second, but Hopstache edges it out for me.

Speaking of love, I *need* to get some Hot Loins. I saw that it's pub only, but how does that translate to availability? Meaning, will I have to trade an arm and a leg to get some?

 

I don't have a definite answer to your question, but the bottles I purchased yesterday have a 12/22/16 date code.

 

The bottle I drank last night had lots and lots of floaties. I still drank the entire bottle (and it was delicious!), but wow I've never seen so many floaties in a beer.

 

You should be able to find a lot of shorts in Chicago but some of their beers don't get distributed outside of MI. I recommend stopping at Barneys regardless of what you are looking for. Quite a good selection.

 

Chocolate Wheat popping up in same shipment as Smore Stout. That's another nice little surprise.

 

Does anyone know if Hopstache will make it to Ohio? Have always wanted to try it but Michigan trip timing hasn't worked out yet.

 

Just got my sixer of Smore Stout at Wine Palace in Livonia. They only got two cases, as well. There were five six packs left. Get you some, this one is awesome,floaties and all. Just let it warm a little bit and the flavors (especially the chocolate) blossom and it gets so smooth.

And since everyone has ran down all the excellent IPAs coming from Short's, I gotta remind y'all about the Belgian ales they put out. I know Belgians are a love 'em or hate' em thing, but for being a bunch of hop-heads, Short's puts out some excellent Belgians. Evil Urges, Dolly Dagger, Wit Happens, Van Dammage, PGGB, Love Knife... If everyone liked banana, clove, and bubblegum more I'm sure we could get a Belgian variety pack.

Boy oh boy is this a good batch. I think the slight bump to 6.8% has done this wonders.

 

Well with this and the Transient release, it looks like I might be headed to Michigan tomorrow

 

@Tripel_Threat wine palace used to be my spot for a very long time. Now that i work in W bloom. I go to plum market. They get shorts shipment early afternoon Fridays (as opposed to Thurs at the palace). Picked up a 6 of Smore's for 12.99 and a 6 of chocolate wheat for 8.99. Also talked some coworkers into picking them up and sold a few more for Shorts. Love converting macro beer people to Shorts Brew enthusiasts !

Had one of each ... both are pretty good. I even used a blowtorch to char a fresh marshmallow and threw it in the Smore's ! The marshmallow blends into the beer giving it more mouthfeel and overall creamy chocolatey - marshmallow fluff-character.. lol

 

I've been to that one, a few friends of mine work there. One of them set a Batch 5000 aside for me on the initial bomber release. I was pleasantly surprised that that pricing is super competitive there, on first impression I assumed it was going to be a few bucks more there than other places. If I lived near there, I'd probably shop beer there, too. Really suggest the palce to any BA.

 

For sure!! Yeah the one dude i talk to is bearded tall skinny guy hes always super cool and helpful.

Yeah i also go to wine barrel plus on plymouth most of the time if im around my house. . And the occasional wine palace stop as kelly is the man.

 

Despite the chunks, S'mores Stout is another great beer from Shorts, so much chocolate and marshmallow.

 

For those that have tried it, what did you think of Run? I thought it was very citrus-forward at first. As it warmed the cherry notes came out. Quite enjoyable.
