I don't drink a ton but I do get a craving for a darker coffe beer when I wake up on the weekends. Call me crazy.

There are plenty of great ones, say, Founders Breakfast Stout, but it isn't around all year. I'd stock up, but coffee doesn't hold up long term.

I'm looking for something in the vein of Sierra Nevada's Coffee Porter that is available year round in the Detroit-ish area. I've tried Oddside's Bean Flicker, but it doesn't have the body or roasty-ness I'm looking for.

    Any ideas?

What about Speedway Stout or Victory at Sea? I think those are both available most times of the year. They are bombers though, not sure if that affects your decision.

Really though, why not buy a case or two of FBS when it comes out?

Victory at Sea used to be only a winter release, but looks like its year round now (must have just started recently, as our last drop in Chicago was the normal December drop). And it is usually distributed here in 6 packs now. I've only seen bombers of the variants.

Coffee stouts are my favorite style, but I don't know many that are not seasonal releases. But there are so many people doing coffee stouts these days that I just typically try whatever's out.

I'll probably buy a decent amount but I feel it doesn't hold up aged as it drinks fresh.

Speedway is a great suggestion I forgot about. The 750 is quite the undertaking, though. Victory at Sea is another great idea that I slipped my mind. Thanks!

I'm with you there. I'm just disappointed more times than not and would like to settle down.

If the 16oz cans of Speedway make their way east it would be perfect for this situation!

They just started canning them sometime in January if I recall correctly.

Speedway is absolutely one of my favorite stouts in general. That's a good contender along with VaS.

Good other standards are also: Lauganitas Cappuccino Stout, Stone's Coffee Milk Stout, and Alltech's Kentucky Coffee Stout aren't bad seconds. I'm pretty sure these are easy enough to find if not all year round. Nice thing, is that I see them pretty much all year even though they're seasonal.

Had this for the first time over the holidays. Could be my favorite Short's offering. If it was a regular release, I would have an Amazon Dash button for it.

If you're not dead set on it being a dark beer, coffee cream ales are a nice way to get a ton of coffee flavor without wrecking yourself before noon. Wolf's Ridge Clear Sky Daybreak is worth tracking down if you're intersted in the style.

Short's Cup A Joe is my go to weekend morning brew when it is available (Fall/Winter). If you can find Bell's Java Stout or Double Creme Stout (Fall/Winter), they are rated for a 12 month shelf life and are very good also. Stock up on both, if you can.

Year round, there is Atwater Vanilla Java Porter and Decadent Chocolate Porter. You could also try Rochester Mills Milkshake Stout, not coffee but a sweet stout. Founder's Porter has a sweet chocolate flavor also.

I almost forgot about New Holland Dragon's Milk. It is a Bourbon barrel stout, but it might work for you too.

Not sure how easy Surly is to get for you, but Coffee Bender is a lot like an iced coffee. It's not harsh like a lot of the other coffee brews mentioned here.

    I wish Surly was around...

I'll give a bunch a shot. Shorts has never really done anything for me, but I'll check them out.

Atwater VJP is year round, good point.

I'm also considering getting a home brew recipe together. I haven't brewed much with all the great stuff available but maybe this is a reason to dust that equipment off.

Anybody try French pressing coffee into a stout? I've done lots of different things but suprizingly not coffee, which is one of my favorite stout adjuncts.

I've done some messing around but nothing scientific or great results.

I've done it quite a bit with BCS. I've found that a layer of WHOLE beans (just enough to fill the bottom) for about 8-10 minutes works well. Ground coffee can add too much bitterness.
