Apple Bite is a joke. Those guys think they're hot shit because they have a couple Boubon County variants so they mark them up 300% and keep them high up on the shelf in the window behind the register. Paying for convenience at that spot, if you walk the extra few blocks to binnys, you will find everything and more for less. It will be a total bummer for whoever overpays for them and finds out they are skunked!

This is a couple weeks out but looks like a cool event. For the folks downtown/Loop area. Monk's Pub February 15th at 11am:

In Manhatten for work and BCBS is just sitting on the floor of one local shop by the case. $15.99 per which isn't crazy by NYC standards. It's a reminder of how crazy we are in Chicago.

On another note, if you get a chance to try Carton beers, do it.

Visited the Evergreen Park Binny’s today, and I’ve never seen this much Rare in one place. An employee told me that had received 25 cases at once.

I'm pretty pumped by the idea that these bad boys might show up for years to come. Having the option to grab a top-notch beer like this whenever you want is pretty cool.

(not saying I'll always be down to spend the money, just saying I really appreciate the option)

Having all this rare on the floor has its ups and downs.

It’s ticks me off a little that myself, like so many others, tried so hard to get a bottle and many of us struck out on black friday. I was fortunate enough to find one weeks later and still paid 60 bucks for it. The same store in evergreen park that told me they got 25 cases this year literally got 1 case last year. Also, I can’t believe goose had the balls to charge 80 bucks for one at Prop day, which was the extent of their “vintage sale.” I know I’m beating a dead horse when it comes to this, it’s been talked about enough lol. All I’ll add is that I’m not falling for it again if the rumored “Rare Barleywine” emerges as part of the line up for the next release.

Of course, as you mentioned it’s at least nice that if you want a bottle to try it seems like it’ll be around for a while longer. Though it makes you wonder if they’re still sitting on stacks and stacks of vintage props and and vanilla ryes that randomly get mysteriously and secretively dropped off lol

I agree, although I think I have Stockholm Syndrome; I was also shut out on Black Friday, and so now just feel like "praise GI for my peasant self to have a bottle of Rare!" With that being said, I acknowledge how weird the whole thing has been.

The only defense I'll make for the $80 Prop Day sale is that it was a free event, so at least you didn't have to pay for the privilege of the other stuff you got. But yes, it's been a little weird (and the $80 on-premise bottles at the taproom also stick in my craw).

Yes! I was here yesterday and couldn't believe it. I have to believe GI is just sitting on tons more of it as well.

They are still sitting on stacks of vintage prop and VR. I've seen photos with pallets of OG vanilla and many more past vintages. I know most of these are used for events and when they do their migration tours, but it would be nice to see more drops of these at Binnys like we saw in December.

I had a friend that was picked from the lottery and so i actually didn’t go. It would have added fuel to the fire if I was one of the people that purchased it for 80 though lol. How does that saying go, “Free ain’t Free” lol.

The thing is that no one was obligated to purchase bottles of Rare at the event, so Free could very well have been Free

Of course there’s no obligation. I just think Goose could have handled it all much better. People I’m sure went with there pockets lined because they were told there was going to be an opportunity to purchase “vintage bottles.” Vintage bottles turned out to be 80 dollar rare which maybe at the time didn’t seem all that bad. In retrospect, Goose knew exactly what they were doing. And I know there’s always the guy that always chimes and says, well it’s a free market yada yada if you were willing to pay......No, that’s BS. They took advantage of their own customers.

If you buy it at Binnys, you're still laying $80 after tax btw.

Don't forget they took further advantage of their own customers by offering free tickets to the event. And complaining about $10 difference with the Binny's price is comparable to complaining about a $2 price difference on a $15 bomber.

Still, the point is the source shouldn’t be offering an event, baiting you with a vintage sale, and then selling to you at the retail markup when they knew there was going to be mass distribution.

    Baiting???

Because people weren't going to show up if only prop was for sale, along with a party of free beer?

Also, many breweries sell beer at, or slightly above, msrp so as to not undercut the retailers they rely on to sell their product.

I bought a bottle at prop day. I was fine with it, and am glad I did.
