Email sent out to the Founders Cadre group last night, and I'm sure official notice will broadcast soon. I, for one, am super excited for this. I loved the OG, and if they re-bottle that magic, I will be chasing trucks to stock up.

Awesome. Doom kicks ass. Would love it if Better Half made a return, too.

Doom was the last WOW backstage release that i've had from Founders. Better Half is the only one I haven't tried so wouldn't mind that reappearing also! Mango Magnifico coming back before either of these seemed like an odd choice.

Honestly, if you put a fresh batch of CBS and Better Half in front of me, I would choose Better Half. I realize I am in the minority though.

Glad others are excited about it. It just didn't do it for me last time around. At the time it was my first barrel aged IPA and after having others like Project Pam and Bourbon Huma I've found it's just not my style.

PAM was a lot closer to CBS than any IPA. I had CBS, KBS and PAM all at the same time at Founders a while back. I think the name (black IPA) is throwing people off. Granted, I was comparing aged CBS and KBS vs PAM.

Maybe it's just my taste preference, but I'm not a fan of the flavors of oxidized hops. The original DOOM release was full of these flavors and so was PAM. Not my cup of tea.

I get the same "off flavor" in hoppy barleywines and malty IPAs that aren't super fresh. Seems to be an interaction between caramel malts and hop oils extracted during the boiling process that occurs as the beer ages (or if these hop oils are exposed to oxygen). Dry hopping doesn't seem to lead to the same off flavors though which makes me think that the types of hop oils that lead to this flavor only make it into beer when hops are boiled.

Just one man's opinion, but I think hops should be drank fresh. Barrel aging a DIPA seems like a waste of perfectly good beer to me.

Totally agree. Glad others like this, I'll buy a 12oz single. Despite the negative comments posted online about Frootwood, I like it more than I liked Doom.

The recipe for a DIPA and a barley wine can be very similar. Identical in some cases. I'm not arguing with your tastebuds but many people can get hung up on labels.

I've heard rumors from Founders brewers that fresh X is blended with the bbl aged product. I was sitting next to a brewer at the bar talking specifically about KBS and he said that's what they do with that particular beer but he said they use that technique a lot. Who knows if there is any truth to that or it applies to Doom.

I'm in that minority as well. Quite excited to hear there's a chance that this is coming back in the near future.

100% agree with this.....Also, "off" flavors indicate that something is wrong, when nothing is further from the case in Doom...Doom is fantastic imo..

Fresh Doom should be interesting. Opened an aged bottle last year, and it was basically undrinkable (not surprised though). So as is the case with any IPA, don't age even barrel aged ones.

I couldn't agree with you more. I purchased two bottles of Doom when it was last released. Was it three years ago? I can't remember and Founders has taken the Backstage Series webpage off their website.

Regardless, fresh Doom was exactly how you would think it would drink. I saved the other bottle in my cellar and shared it with friends two months ago. It was a malt bomb with absolutely no bourbon notes. If you purchase Doom this time around, don't sit on it very long.

If this is anything close to BA Redankulous, I'll be a happy camper.

With how much this has been in tap, I'd be surprised if we don't see this bottles this year.
