I saw it on the great divide release schedule thread in the mountain regional forum, they are also discontinuing oak aged yeti apparently. I love hibernation ale, great affordable old ale, I would be very disappointed if it ever went away that is for sure. I actually haven't bought much of it this year, I might need to make it a yearly case purchase and also start a vertical.

Looks like these style tastings are going in a "styles I've enjoyed so far but have only had a couple of and have been meaning to try more of" direction, with doppelbocks first and now barleywines.

I'll have to check the local beer store sometime and see if they have any I could pick up... I found Bigfoot there before, but I'm not sure if they ever ordered any of the 2016 (or maybe they only ordered a little and it sold out unexpectedly fast?) since there was still some 2015 on the shelves when it came around. Not sure whether I should expect to see 2017 Bigfoot there or not, even though they did clear out the 2015 four-packs.

Thanks. I never visit the region threads beyond my own. With Great Divide's distribution, that thread would be have good for the general news section.

I usually wouldn't check other regions either, but that thread showed up in the last posted thread box outside the forum. I'm surprised it wasn't posted in the beer release forum, old ruffian was one of the few bar, eyewitnesses that saw pretty much nationwide distro.

As long as I get out of work at a decent hour I have a couple '15 Blithering Idiots and '16 Bigfoot.

On the off chance I don't work that day I might tackle a bomber of Caution! Contains Real Pumpkin! From Voodoo

I apologize for my lack of knowledge, but I've never done one of these before. Are there any other guidelines other than consuming an appropriate beer according to the type and then share notes? Also, just for my 2 euro cents, I wouldn't be opposed if someone offers up their thoughts on an Old Ale as well.

That's the plan behind these style tastings. I think it's more fun than it would be if I set up say an imperial stout tasting, or an IPA tasting, where you'd already be drinking those styles regularly.

Nope we're just sharing notes on the beer. Just drink post and discuss.

I'm in for this. Quick question, are we sticking to a certain style of Barleywine to see whats what or just a free for all? I'm speaking American v English v Barrel Aged.

Pretty sure any barleywine will do.

    Cheers!

Any barleywine will do, I was actually considering extending it to old ales as well.

Old ales should definitely be included. Especially since some (Bells Third Coast) have both names of their label.

I'm definitely in. This will be the perfect excuse to try Bigfoot for the first time, with both fresh vs. aged.

I just found two bottles of November 2015 Pretty Things "our finest regards" barley wine might be a great opportunity to open up a bottle!!

Barleywine is one of my favorite styles, so I've got a bunch of different aged ones in the cellar to choose from: Bigfoot, Old Stock, Old Ruffian, Blithering Idiot, Old Guardian, Backburner, JW Lees, Olde School, Flying Mouflan, Olde Gnarleywine, Third Coast, a few others.
