Same situation for me in Southeastern PA. Genesee beers are available but the Wholesale Distributor that has the contract with Genesee chooses to not sell Genny Bock. I guess they don't think it will sell well?

    Cheers!

Don't know what think. I called the distributor and spoke to the manager who said he really didn't know why they didn't. I asked a local store manager to order a case and he tried only to be told there was none in the warehouse. Store manager there for 15 years he also said I was the first person to make the request so we have the conundrum of nobody asks for it because they aren't aware of it and they won't be aware of it until somebody stocks it.

There are a number of craft breweries in Southeastern PA that have been producing German style Lagers (Helles, Pilsners,...) for decades; they sell pretty well.

Stoudts has been doing this for 30 years. Sly Fox & Victory have been doing it for 20+ years. And others.

And needless to say but Yuengling has been making beers since 1829 (lagers since 184x?).

    Cheers!

A bit different situation for me. The beer stores and needless to say the Wholesale Distributor are well aware of the beer (Genny Bock) but they simply choose to not carry it. I have requested it a few times from local beer stores and I get a consistent answer: I can't get it for you because the Wholesaler refuses to order it.

I have been somewhat tempted to further pursue it but since I go up to Lake Placid every February for skiing I buy the beer there. I can get a 12-pack at Rite Aid for less than 10 bucks. Such a deal!!!!

    Cheers!

I'd drink original Michelob, haven't seen it in Maine for years. Anyone know if it's still available?
OP, drink what you like. I work and have bills so I have to keep my beer budget in check. I'm able to pick up some DIPAs and a few variety beers along with some daily drinker micros and keep my budget the same as when I drank macros. And I'm drinking a lot less.

Yup, AB is still producing Michelob. Maybe one of your local stores can special order it for you?

    Cheers!

    Nope!

That's this cheap bastard's favorite (cheaper than everything 'cept Ravinder's Finest) and I don't want to give Mr. Kashper any idea that it's "hip" or "cool." Where I'm at it's bad enough that every West Bank gutter punk drinks it ("Avast, ye anarchists that booty be all mine!")

I have no problem with AALs.
I always have a case or 12-pack in my fridge; I like to vary it PBR, Miller High Life, Bud, Miller Lite, Corona etc.

I really like the Trader Joe's brand Name Tag Lager. It's cheap too like $3.99 a 6-pack.

I agree I'd buy it on site, haven't seen it in years. ABs too into selling the Bud Light crap. But if I was them I'd do the same thing.

There's a small casino on the Vegas strip that sells $1 bottles of Michelob. It's the only place I've seen it in years.

    1. It's only beer.

    2. No, the vast majority of them certainly are bad  (read: devastatingly bland), but you do whatever the hell you want to do in this area.

    3. I am single and only drink craft. Unemployed, so sticking to multi-packs (or occasional non-bomber single from TJ's). I am spending about $50-$70 a month. Only since you mentioned it, and it sounds like you've cut it, but three to four a day seems like too much. Even when I was buying bombers, my beer spending was rarely above $150.

For those of you who like Dos Equis Amber, try Indio if you can find it. It's a little lighter and goes down so easy. I started drinking that years ago in Mexico. It only became available in AZ 2-3 years ago so not sure if it's available all over the country yet.

I was able to score genny bock in sepa last year. It was not in stock per say but the only 2 genny products that are are cream ale and light. Anyway someone requested a few cases of the genny bock and never came to pick them up, I bought them all over a months span.

Very interesting OP. For myself, before I had real bills, I would brewery crawl every weekend in excess of $15/each place. I don't know if content is the right word, But I dont need to be trying every new release anymore. I can find a solid six or four pack at $10 total, and enjoy that over the weekend. Budgeting down is a good term. But I dont feel I need to budget down too too much. Find out where you were, and see where you currently are and try to find a middle ground.

I will say. I had a PBR on draft at a new place (presumably new keg) a couple years back and was shocked. It had all the qualities that "craft" pilsners and lagers get kudos for. I regularly consume Dos Equis lager. Fat Tire and Shiner Bock have interesting qualities to them after months of only IPAs. Subtle is a great word. Unless your goal is a straight consumption factor, the middle ground can be blissful

That was a beautiful post. If you threw in something about how despicable the phrase "walez bro" is, it would be perfect.

Not so much for cost efficiency but I drink roughly 1/3 AAL and 2/3 craft lagers and ales. I like a clean AAL incorporated into my daily beer routine.

I love pilsners and other lagers. I recently drank a DOS Equis and just thought it tasted watery.

While eating at Mexican restaurants I'll normally order a Negra Modelo. I recently bought a Tecate and enjoyed it though.

Outside of mexican (or Tex Mex) restaurants the only AAL that I really enjoy that I can buy is Shiner Bock.

But probably the beer I buy the most often is a German Pilsner from an Aldi grocery store nearby. 6-packs for $5.99 the same cost as 6-ers of the standard BMC.

Just wish Pabst would bring this back with the original recipe. Granted I was about 9 when I had it last but still I grew up in Wisconsin and had developed quite a beer palate by that point.

I think one thing that gets lost is "drink what you like and tell us why you like it".
