Seems like you need a meet-up with a tech-savvy BA to show you the ropes. I agree that it's a couple of steps, but they do become rote with a little practice .

Shared a little of this with my mom. She's a fan of Mole styled food, but not the biggest beer fan. Slowly working on converting her. I saved enough for myself to review.

    Weyerbacher's Sunday Mole Stout.

Pours black with a finger of tightly-laced, hearty caramel-colored foam. Head retention is great, with dark lacing left randomly around the glass after each sip. Coffee greets the nose first. Cinnamon, chocolate, vanilla bean, and roasted malts develop a decidedly "Mole" style complex aroma. Flavor profile follows the aroma, with a shorter duration of coffee at the onset. The chocolate notes that follow are much more pronounced than the aroma, and form a majority of the flavor profile. Sprinkles of cinnamon, vanilla bean, chili peppers, and roasted malts populate the remainder of the flavor profile. Chili peppers are light, and only show up towards the tail end of the flavor profile. Mouth feel is thick and creamy, with good presence. Overall, a beer seemingly centered on coffee and chocolate, the mingling and mashing of cinnamon, vanilla bean, and spices give this beer a nice presence and make each sip more enjoyable than the last. It's balanced and tasty.

    Mother's Review:
"Huh. This smells like coffee." *Sips* "Oh, there's the chocolate. Tell me what I need to taste and I'll say it."

While the subject of Altbiers is topical, it would be criminal if I didn't take advantage and give a shout out to Chuckanut Brewing in Bellingham, WA (stomping grounds of one @beertunes). Most authentic Alt I've had outside of the Ruhr, where I first encountered the style.

Altbiers aren't exactly flavorbombs, but they're eminently drinkable. I could drink them all day.

Happy New Odds & Sods Beer Sunday (Week 625), Part Deux!

I am happy to say that we have begun getting distro of Short's B.C.'s beers from MI & I am snapping them up as quickly as they come in. The latest to arrive is:

and since I was on a Midwestern bent, I did a rare back-to-back/side-by-side review of a CAN vs a bottle (& I urge everyone to try this whenever the opportunity arises):

My late and only entry for this NBS is this tasty looking Size 11 TIPA from Steel Toe Brewing, courtesy of @Justdoit1234

Looks nice enough with a regal golden hue under an off white foamy head and fairly curtainish lacing.

Nose is a solid hot pine gone sweet for the most part. Hints of alcohol and a slightly bready malt, but that's as much as I can get from it.

Taste has heat spice it seems like. I mean, there's a spiciness to it that leads in a candy sweetness, stylized as something between pine and tangerine with some evident alcohol in the taste that fades off as a slight caramel malt lingers on.

Lighter bodied than I thought it would be, but this just makes it seem more drinkable. Aftertaste is an alcohol bitter.

    Very big, tasty beer indeed!

Mind numbing. I can add pics to Facebook, to messenger, emails, ya know wtf. Why does it have to be a tech savvy thing? This shit frustrates me obviously. But I'm up if there's any tech savvy Greensboro or Burlington BAs , buy you a beer or two. That was a great idea, thanks.

I read this thread every week but this is my first time contributing to it!

Banded Horn Vertumnus. 6.0%. It is their Veridian IPA aged on oak with Brett.

Pours a slightly hazy straw orange with a nice lingering white head. Aromas of barnyard funk and overripe fruits. Taste is oak, orange peel, pine, and some funk. Just lightly tart. Carbonation is light and it's medium bodied. Dry finish. Overall, a nice Brett beer.

    Cheers!

Yes, temperature could be a factor. I start my beers cold, often ice cold, then let them warm up if they need it. This one I probably didn't allow as much warming as it needed, for I definitely liked the second half much more than the first.

I've got another bottle and will pay closer attention to the temperature.

I haven't had a Shenkerla beer in way too long. These need to hang out in my fridge a lot more often.

Evening NBS and thanks to @smakawhat for the stand in roll call- a freaking rock and amazing BA.
Snow and rain mix here. Thankfully there are only a few more weeks of February left.
Picked up some nice fresh stuff from one of my favorite local, or just favorite period, on Friday. I was hesitant to pull the trigger but wound up rolling the dice on:
Proclamations Simcow IPA brewed with Simcoe, lactose and spices ( which turned out to be hibiscus and orange peel) I asked because I'm not a fan of coriander. Here goes:
Pours a dark orange, slightly hazy with a nice brilliant white head with large soapy like bubbles leaving spotty lacing as it diminishes.
Aroma is damp pine bed floor, some guava and sweet citrus. There is also a sweet funky damp mushroom like aroma.
Taste is pine, citrus and tropical fruit. There is quite a bit of bitterness from hibiscus but this is smoothed out by the sweetness of the lactose. White pepper spice notes.
Medium to low carb with bitterness left on the tongue with a tinge of the milk sugar sweetness that enhances the creamy medium body but still manages to finish very dry.
Seemed like an odd thing honestly when I discovered what the ingredients were. But like any Proclo brew they pulled this all together to create a truly unique and atypical but enjoyable brew!
Have a great week and thanks for taking the time to listen. Pic is when it got "orange" outside at sunset.[IMG] [IMG]

Goose Island IPA, 5.9% ABV, 55 IBU. Pours thin and orange, with a one finger foamy white head, leaves decent lacing. Nose is piney hops. Taste is malt, then a moderate bitter hop close. Decent mouthfeel, overall decent.

To try and not go down a geeky rabbit hole... at a high level, it's an indicator to the site that understands a certain markup language (in this case BA) that the post wants to get data (in this case, image data) from "this other internet location."

Back on topic, sorta... popped an un-refrigerated version of my latest home brew IPA after only a week and a half to see how it was progressing. Ok, carbonation NOT an issue (Grolsch bottle let a huge pop, but pour was not gushing). Nose isn't anywhere near real brewery levels, but I think it'll get the requisite rating in the all important "drinkable by me" rating.

I apparently had an account with 1 photo from ~ 2 years ago. Other than that I just started with it Thursday. I often do get frustrated with that sort of thing but had no trouble with it. Just give it a go. Probably will be surprisingly easy. Getting to your photo files might be a step extra the first time? I've experienced that once you've done it once with these sort of things, the computer automatically follows the path from then on & you don't have to think about it.

    New (canned) Beer Sunday!

    Veltins Pilsener
    [IMG]

I saw this beer for the first time at one of my favorite local stores. At a $1.69 for a single 16oz can, I figured why eff not. I have noticed by looking back at my scores, that I prefer the German Pils to the Czech style. I find this German example to be one of my favorites thus far. The appearance is as above, and is solid for the style, though the head retention was minimal. The aroma has a great balance of floral hops and sweet, honey-esque / cracker-like malt. The taste is subtle, but great balance as well. The light malt notes carry most of the flavor until the finish, where a mild floral hop bite leads to a crisp, dry, and refreshing finish. I find this one to be underrated, and if it sticks around it will compete with Goose Island Four Star and Sierra Nevada Nooner (when I can find it, sans the glass :grimacing:) as my go-to for the style. The price is right, and the 16oz format fits the drinkability. Damn there exactly what I was hoping for out of this one.

    4.27/5 (rDev +23.8%)

    See you soon, NBS!
