I was in Wildwood yesterday and today. Stopped by Cape May Brewing and picked up a 6 pack of Cape May IPA and a growler of Corrosion Sour IPA. I didn't have time to try anything so I hope they are good.

Just had Tonewood Brewing's "Fuego" on tap last night in Mt Holly.

That thing is delicious. I'll definitely be visiting Tonewood soon.

Yeah it's crazy. I remember just being floored a couple months ago about Brotherton and their hoppy beers then Tonewood sneaks in out of nowhere and drops this beast. Here's a low quality pic that doesn't do it justice:

Latest Fuego batch may be even better than the last. I've been hoping for a breakout brewery from my little corner of NJ, really rooting for these guys to be the one. Fuego is a very good sign.

Fuego definitely prompted a "Why haven't we been there yet?" from my wife, which is always a good sign. She's way more harsher on breweries than I am.

fuego is the only thing i've ever heard of being worth trying from them from more then a handful of people now.. I also think when they first opened I had gotten reports from friends whos opinions I trust a lot that they weren't too impressed and to give tonewood 6 or more months to get things going... if they use their momentum properly however it very well will be a spot worth hitting soon

it's like a lot of the new spots that open... takes some time to get the ball rolling properly... when a spot opens up and is firing right off the bat it makes it that much more special.. that is why i was impressed by Troon so much... they've been open what... like 4 months now... and the beer is really good imo... There seems to be a split between spots where they had a lot of capital and the brewing wasn't so hot and other spots where the brewing is really good but maybe they didn't have so much capital to open up a fancily designed/comfortable location etc.

I think it's a matter of focus too. Troon clearly came out of the gate knowing what they wanted to do and their whole vibe was set in stone.

Tonewood is definitely more in line with a lot of the South Jersey breweries where they play it safe at first ("We have an IPA, a porter, a pale ale...") and then have a breakout beer that helps them decide which direction to go.

true.. time will tell for sure... Tonewood will need to push out a few more ipa's of different hop makeup before i proclaim them a must hit spot.. as it stands if somebody asked me for a recommendation they wouldn't be in the top spots, unless somebody was trying to really stick to a tight area and weren't willing to travel outside their predetermined area... a guy at work was just asking me today about some south jersey spots to hit for a birthday saturday and i still had to give him the spellbound/forgotten boardwalk/village idiot/double nickel spots.. then told him about tonewood and the spot in collingswood.. devil something? also dropped Cape May/Glasstown/Kelly Green and Tuckahoe to him but that's a bit out of the area he wanted to drive...

NJ still seems to be Central/North heavy for the goods with Kane/Carton/Conclave/Magnify/Troon being Top 5 in NJ imo... Spellbound is certainly the best in the south... Can't count brotherton since there isn't anywhere to visit.. if there was they would be up there too

A couple of friends and I went for a ride yesterday and hit Devils Creek and Tonewood, then stopped at ARS in Philly on the way home.
Tonewood was the best experience of the day. Devils Creek had a real nice bar and nice people, beer was okay. Seemed like a fun place to hang out, and well worth hitting along with Tonewood as they are less than 10 minutes from each other.
Tonewood also had a great space and the staff were super nice as well. Had a sampler, all of the beers were very good, especially the Fuego.

On Sunday my buddy and I did Tonewood and Eight and Sand. I liked the beers better at Eight and Sand especially the black IPA. Eight and Sand has a really nice large outdoor area that will be are awesome once the nice weather gets here. Tonewood was absolutely packed with a huge local crowd. I picked up a crowler of Chief and will try to later in the week.

Hopefully hitting up Kelly Green on Saturday, anyone else going? Never been (what should I expect?), but the new releases sound delicious.

I'm the assistant brewer at Eight and Sand and would love to chat with fellow beer lovers from here. I mainly work the tasting room on Sunday's. Come by and say hi. My milk stout (Bad Hombre) is dropping soon, either this weekend or definitely the next. Its conditioned with Cinnamon, vanilla beans, peppers and coffee. Cheers

New batch just dropped, and supposedly it’s much better

“While designing last year’s recipe… newfangled New England IPA…I came close, but there was definitely room for improvement…We played with the malt bill and the mash temperature to ensure we get that nice soft body we’re looking for…focused on Mosaic in the dry-hopping this year, which are a great hops variety with a complex aroma of tropical fruits, wild flowers, blueberries, and a touch of earthiness. Coupled with some Amarillo and Citra for an added lemon and orange citrus kick have made a great springtime beer.” (Brian Hink, Return-White-Caps)

Glad they didn't go the $13 4-pack route. I'm getting pretty sick of that shit.
