On Tap in the Twin Cities - February Edition

It's stout week at Groveland Tap.

Taps include BCBS, BA Darkness, High Westified, and Rum King. All 30 stouts were tapped this morning at 11.

 

At Roseville New Bohemia.

 

The cask is Vanilla Darkness, but they still have BA Darkness on tap, so you can blend them to make BA Vanilla Darkness.

 

Is that BA? I thought the regular Ten wasn't barrel aged.

Really? The sign at Surly clearly said cask BA Darkness w vanilla.

 

Surly's website said regular and the sign said barrel aged. Looking at Untappd, they already tapped it and it is barrel aged.

 

So, I just finished my pour and got back to work (don't tell my boss) and I can see the confusion here. I didn't even look at the menu and just ordered the Vanilla Darkness. It tasted great and was extremely vanilla-forward with no barrel so just assumed it was non-BA. I was surprised that after half a glass that I noticed on the menu that it was in fact barrel aged. My group agreed that since the 'regular' barrel aged didn't have a super pronounced barrel presence this year that the vanilla kinda dominated. I thought it was kinda boozy for regular old Darkness (not a bad thing at all) so now it makes sense. Great beer, though - check it out, if you can.

 

Anyone know if vanilla darkness is still on? Wondering if it'll last into tomorrow:

 

Wasn't there a vanilla oak aged darkness cask at ABR last year? I can't remember the exact concoction other than I didn't want to finish my pour.

 

I was told it ran out at 4:30.

 

It was barrel aged. It was vanilla. It was absolutely staggering. It kicked at 4:30 today. So on for 5 1/2 hours.

 

There was and it was not good. I definitely dumped too and moved right on over one booth for some DSDB.

Indeed there was. It was godawful. This was nothing like that. I believe they just threw bourbon soaked red oak chips and vanilla into a cask of darkness rather than actual BA darkness with vanilla.

 

Heartbreakers in Chaska has barrel aged Silhouette.

 

Any disgruntled stuff on anywhere? I'll check the badge delivering app as well, but thought I'd ask. Taking my horse and buggy up to the Cities tomorrow and thirsty for some of them hazy hoppy beers. Any of those on tap anywhere also?

 

Give Grizzly's in Plymouth a call. That's usually where I've seen Disgruntled in the metro area.

 

Ansari's, Grizzly's, and Butcher and the Boar (plus another in the northern burbs I think) are the only places that currently have accounts with Disgruntled. Worth givin' them a call.
