Now drinking toba oatmeal stout from track, really nice on cask. I like this Manchester brewery.

Treated myself to my final Yellow Belly tonight. Have been saving it for a special occasion and surely your 54th birthday is special.

Many happy returns and certainly a great accompanying beer. My birthday Saturday week and I will be looking for something special to indulge in as well. Travelling to Dusseldorf and Cologne on Sunday for 4 days, so Altbier and Kolsch will be on the menu. Here is some of my recent list :

Northern Monk - Peanut Butter and Jelly Ale
Arbor and Cornish Tea - Lemon Thyme Saison
    Cloudwater/Magic Rock - Big Dipper
    Verdant - Pulp
    Wild Beer - Ninkasi
    Victory - Moon Glow

No duffers in here. Highlights Northern Monk, a lovely low ABV version of Yellow Belly and the 2 DIPA's, Big Dipper and Pulp. The former a fantastic full citrus hop assault, a higher ABV version of Arbor's Yakima Valley and the latter similar from a brewery gaining a very good rep.

    Berliner Kindl - Raspberry Weisse,
Peach Hefeweisse - no brewer name,
Banana Hefeweise - no brewer name,
    Wenkers - Dunkel.

Narragansett Lager (terrible) and Magic Rock Salty Kiss (so-so) for me tonight and my last bottle of homebrewed rye stout (pretty good for me  ) Going to enjoy some SMWS single cask whiskies now

Met up with a friend in London yesterday so I was determined to get to a decent pub. The Cask Pub and Kitchen in Pimlico beckoned and I had a few halves.
Redemption Fellowship porter - decent but more like an old fashioned style London Porter, not black but brown, not roasty and bitter but slightly chocolatey and sour on the finish.
Kernel Galaxy IPA - my favourite maker of IPAs and my favourite hop, but it seemed a bit one dimensional. Fruity but lacking.
Mallinsons Centennial - very light bitter, nicely hopped and immensely quaffable.
Pig and Porter Stout - fairly rich and inoffensive stout, which you could easily drink a few pints of.

I also picked up a can of Magic Rock Clairvoyance IPA from the overpriced wine shop in Shenfield too. £3.60 from the brewery but £4.99 from this shop. Eek.

Currently building an extension to my house so am trying to be frugal : so revisited steinhauser lager from aldi again, was a bit worse than I remember. So then had some saison1900, which has made me want to seek out uk brewed saisons.

    Any suggestions on that front?

Hey lads, been a while since I've written. I had a bottle of Cantillon Fou Foune last night and I must say, Cantillon is not for me. I don't understand the hype and I'm not sure my palate will ever appreciate it. Currently drinking a Brewdog vs Cloudwater New England IPA. I expected this to be great with Cloudwater involved. Hopefully Brewdog learned a thing or two about expanding their horizons. It's a pretty decent beer and nicely represents the style, in my opinion. Cheers!

Ditto, pretty much. Really enjoyed St. Lamvinus but all the others were just alright. Not bad but not worth the hype or price tag for me! I'd maybe pay <£10 euros if I was in Belgium though.

I think Partizan and Brew by Numbers do them fairly regularly. Also the Kernel maybe?

    cheers

I've had a couple of BBN ones, they were decent iirc. Tempest one too. Should really try and rate more of the beers I drink. will look out for more, not had any kernel ones though, will definitely check them out

Count me in too. I understand why some may like them for being so different from more regular beers, but I don't think they merit the deity level they seem to have been given by so many . Give me one beer for the rest of my life and whatever I chose it would never, ever, be a cantillon.

The Tempest Farmhouse Ale is pretty good, most of the Tempest beers are to be fair.

Was gutted to miss the boat on that one by the time I looked back on eebria it was sold out. I have managed to get the dipa v12 as well as the brewdog collab and brewdog's born to die, so not all is lost.

Yeah, at least with so many DIPAs at the moment it's hard to miss out really! Verdant are bringing out 3 new ones and Brew by Numbers have their new one out soon. It's hard to keep track of them all!

Picked up some Jaipur X, 10% DIPA 500ml bottles for £2 each that was just past its bbd, going to try and age them a couple of years to see what they are like as a barley wine . Might be good,or it might be jakey juice. @Kozel if you are in glasgow any time soon I got them from the cave on great western road. Been ages since I was last there, I'm sure their beer selection has improved a bit

Had a can of Cloudwater DIPA v12, which was lovely. All that good bitterness which many of the others have lacked, on top of really intense white stoney fruit.

Also a couple of cask pints on Kew Green yesterday, Twickenham Redhead and Portobello Pass it Pale, a special for the six nations.

Supped a couple of pints of homebrew brown ale, based on an older Woodfordes Wherry recipe that apparently included German crystal malt.

Picked up a Cloudwater DIPA v12 as well, along with their Vic Secret Wai-iti IPA and 2 Neck Oils, for the easy drinking.

Cheers, but probably a couple of weeks before I'll be dropping the boy off at Kelvinbridge. Will pop in anyway.

Had a nice trip to Dusseldorf last week :

    Schumacher Alt
    Fuchschen Alt
    Kurzer Alt
    Uerige Alt, DoppelSticke
    Klapperfiets India Pale Ale
    Gulasch Alt
    Schlussel Alt
    Schneider Weisse Aventinus Eisbock
    Schonramer Imperial Stout

Great to try all the different alt's, each with their own personalities. Picked up the Aventinus Eisbock for 2 Euros !! at a department store grocery section, (good places if your struggling to find beer in cities).
