I got turned down the last place I asked. But what do you guys pay for the fill? Normal pint price? Do specials apply ($3 pints from 4-6, etc.). Just curious.

That might be convenient if you want to get more than 1 beer. I've never asked though. The Friday special where I go is $12/64 oz, an lately an occasional $15, for beers that are typically $7.99 -$12.99 / bomber, so a pretty good deal on (usually) 5 very good to great beers Last one : Jack's Abbey Kiwi Rising DIPL . ( & tonight, because of a tasting visit - Upstate Mole Stout (8.8%) )

The list often includes one or two Singlecut beers. I just pour 'em into smaller bottles, if I don't want to drink it all in 2-3 days. In other words, its a good deal, & I don't want to be an unappreciative d*** asking for a different deal.

There is an HEB (grocery store) over by where I work outside of Houston and they have a growler station (can't sell beer for on site consumption) and he started doing 16 oz growler fills ($3 to $4) depending on the beer. They unfortunately put them in clear plastic containers, but they are fine filling the 16oz flip tops. Simply grab a couple of
Monchshof Schwarzbier or Kellerbier's and you are good to go

I didn't know that 16oz growlers were actually sold before this post. Where can you buy one? I prefer the screw top with the traditional lid size but if they make German style flip tops in 16oz that would be pretty cool too.

I once got a 32oz Crowler of stone ris. Way too much. I still had a strong buzz at 6am when I woke up

Motion to name the 16oz growler a "LOLer"

We seem to be approaching the era of the disguised to-go cup...

A 64z growler makes a great to go cup. Nothing like DRIPA straight from the jug.

Usually from a place that will fill them

Often named a "pint-to-go" but I also have seen them called prowlers and many other things

Did that as a compliment to a pirate costume for halloween one year, it was a helpful accessory.

There's more to keeping a beer fresh than carbonation and that method of re-pouring growlers greatly increases the beer's exposure to oxygen, which triggers oxidation/staling reactions that can progress very quickly. If you just recapped the original growler (assuming it seals properly), you would probably have less oxygen exposure. The carbon dioxide released from the carbonated beer acts like a blanket between the oxygen and beer, because carbon dioxide is heavier than air. Most people consider oxidation the enemy of hop-forward beers, but some oxidation may not be considered a problem for maltier styles (stouts/porters, barleywines, browns, scotch ales, etc.). I'm not telling you what you should or should not do with beer you buy for yourself, but if your making recommendations in a public forum I felt the counterpoint was necessary. No offense intended.

That could make for an interesting conversation:

Beer Drinker A: "Hey man, where did you get that cool tiny growler?"
Beer Drinker B: "I won it at Bingo!"

    Cheers!

Go to your liquor store and see if they sell any of Monchshof beers, they come in a heavy duty 16oz swing top and the bottle is pretty heavy so you get a beer with your growler for less than $5

It works out nicely. Buy a beer or two. Eat free popcorn. Win some glassware. Just hard to hit it with my schedule with kids as it overlaps bedtime. Or I would probably go more often.

Oliphant Brewery in Somerset, Wisconsin offers 16 oz "hoglets" for their BA beers. Perfect size for those big beers.

I am not a food scientist, but I am unsure how much chemical oxidation will occur in 24 hours. Yes the beer will be flatter and not quite the beer it was, any chemical oxidation that would affect off tastes would be minimal I assume.

I've seen these, a local brewpub offers them:

But to me, it seems dumb to take one glass of beer home from a brewpub.

Well if they don't distribute, and you are driving, why not.

It's just the cost different between the 32oz and 16oz doesn't make sense - if I like a beer, two pints is not too much to drink at once.
