Has anyone tried Banaba or Makatea?

I picked them up on my lunch break at Warehouse. I have enjoyed Hailstorm so far so figured what the hell. Any opinions welcome, thanks!

 

I saw those hit today and was wondering the same thing. I'm in no position to buy those right now with all the stuff I have, but I'm definitely intrigued to know so that I can check out future batches.

 

I will report back sometime this weekend when I give em a try. I didn't realize they hit today actually, guess I got lucky. funny I haven't walked over there in a while at lunch bc its been too cold.

 

Well, they are West Coast IPA's as opposed to NE style, so I just assume people will just pass them by and wonder why anyone would purchase them.

 

I was just reading their description on their site. They're definitely on the radar to check out. And I agree with croush, in that they'll hopefully be easier to track down since they're west coast inspired.

I also just picked up a **** Stache. From what I've read, the raspberry flavor is a bit strong, but maybe that will mellow with a little bit of time.

I still need to make it down to the brewery one of these days.

 

I am looking to pick some of these up myself. I enjoyed their Captain Serious/Pacific Rim so am hopeful, even without the haze.

 

Also, unrelated, but their coffee BBA Vlad is being released on Saturday. Vanilla next month.

Look, if I'm going to drink something as antiquated as a west coast IPA, I might as well stick to Pepsi Free or Tang.

 

BA Vlad the 2nd w/vanilla is the beer that made me realize I didn't always have to chase Madagascar.

 

I say get there, it's a fine place.

 

I have had all of their "Cloud" series and have enjoyed them all and picked up the new IPAs today and will report back at some point. Also have a Lumberjack For Breakfast that I need to get into as well. Really enjoyed what they have done so far and what to get out to the brewery sooner rather than later.

 

I think you'll really like Lumberjack... One of my favorite things about Hailstorm(at least lately) is their adjunct stouts. They definitely go above and beyond with the adjuncts. Hipster was loaded with coconut, Lumberjack with maple and **** Stache with Raspberry.

I enjoyed all three of those stouts immensely.

 

Not on board with their cloud series beers. Cumulus was pretty good. Loved how dank and fruity it was at the same time. Stratus has a bitter front and finish that leaves little to be desired. Every can of Cirrus I've had has this dairy, creamy taste that isn't palatable. Not knocking this place at all because their BA Vlad offerings are fantastic. But I won't be buying another "Northeast" style IPA from them any time soon.

 

I live nearby. Don't get me wrong, I really do like their beers, but I'm not a huge fan of the taproom. While I like seeing the equipment/brewing area, I just don't get any particular "vibe" (it's the best term I can think of) going here. I'd not go far out of your way for a visit if you can get the product nearby. With that said, I'll still be checking out beers as they come out.

 

To me their taproom seems more like a community place with all kinds of people, not just bros and hipsters. I'm an old fart and feel pretty comfortable there. To each his own I guess.

 

The taproom is a fantastic place when there is live music and food trucks! Their releases have been pretty easy to navigate with lots of great beers on tap.
