Lagunitas had a great first step with Born Yesterday. I think they've got the unfiltered thing down, so I definitely think they can do something in the NE style.

And they're well within their right to say that, although I'd say that analogy is a bit farther off than the beers we've referenced (i.e. McD's probably isn't .22 within of Au Cheval on average...but that's obviously my opinion). The point is that people have different opinions, and there's no need to mock them. I'd say that's especially true when a beer's average is only .22 apart, but that really shouldn't even matter. If you think that all those rating TH so high are "right" and anyone else that prefers Galaxy Bowl (or any other beer) is "wrong", then so be it. We've beat this to death.

I'm still surprised one of the bigger Chicago breweries hasn't dipped their toes into this hazy style. Half Acre seems like they've kinda sorta thought about it based on some beers and their descriptions, but it hasn't come through with the final product. I do wonder if there is some reasoning behind some of them not delving into it.

I've always kind of gotten the feeling that they don't want to entirely ape another style. When asked if one of their beers was NE-style, they said "Chicago style" in response.

I would imagine they'll do one at some point, but I think at the moment they're content to do in-betweens like Animal Law.

They are meant to be drank 3 weeks in per the brewers..

If you honestly think Local Hero is better than TH and post that in my opinion you deserved to be called out as wrong.. or opinion being minority. However you want to word it.

Juicy being up there with TH is way more believable...

See, but this is why people get pissed off. You can't call someone's opinion wrong. You can say you disagree, and that most other people disagree, but by definition, an opinion can't be wrong (as long as it's an opinion on something actually subjective).

There's nothing wrong with people thinking Treehouse IPAs are far and away the best in the game. There is something wrong with coming at someone like their tastebuds are malfunctioning because they don't agree with you.

Plenty of people have Zombie Dust in their top 5 or 10 beers, and I wouldn't put that beer in my top 100. Doesn't make anyone else wrong, just means we're all looking for different things from beer.

Its all taste man - its not like there is something objectively wrong with anti-hero ... You like TH more than Anti-Hero, good for you. So would most people. @croush doesn't. Thats his taste/opinion.

totally agree ... well except for that Zombie Dust comment ... HERESY!!

You're wrong! In fact, you're so wrong, I'm rescinding my invitation to hang out after work :stuck_out_tongue:

I'm with @croush here. I've tried a fair amount of these NE-style beers and while they're decent, I just can't really get into them. I'm not going to drain-pour any of them, but as a whole, that style just isn't hitting the sweet spot with me. I'm sure I'll keep giving them a chance, but I'm not giving anything more than minimal effort to get my hands on them.

Honestly, the best aspect of this whole NE craze, for me at least, is that it's been easier than ever to find ZD on store shelves. Maybe it's just coincidence or a change in my luck, but I seriously keep stumbling across it. Personally, I'll take one of those over any of the NE-IPAs I've had.

Clearly, my palate isn't as refined as some of you here, guess I need to light my craft beer nerd membership card on fire

No one was more disappointed than me! FFF was maybe my favorite brewery when I first got into craft beer (Alpha King was my first "favorite" beer). I spent 3 weeks trying my damndest to track down ZD, and when I finally did (thanks, Binny's Grand), it wasn't the hop explosion I wanted (it's balanced as shit, but that's not my style).

That is one interesting post. I'd love to talk to you about these beers and opinions and wrong versus right in person with a beer sometime...we'd obviously each choose our own beer.

I suppose the upside of your posts is that you've brought a Spartan and Wolverine in agreement. This seems to have happened another time or two recently, so I think we are due for a Magnolia "frogs raining" type of thing soon based on this.

Its funny because the balanced nature is exactly why I liked it so much - but I never liked IPAs when I started drinking so that was the perfect gateway IPA for me.

Also, Alpha King - most underrated FFF beer??

I was saying wrong as in a reference to the majority.. not because he thinks that. Which I stated already..

I get what you are saying but I keep trying just like ratwheels did to reference you are in a huge minority on this..

Yeah I'll meet ya at Forbidden Root.. you can try their first takes on a Ne IPA(again what this thread is for) and if Local Hero is better I'll quit drinking beer!!!

Wrong doesn't mean in the minority. Wrong means incorrect. Putting that aside - I don't think he's necessarily in such a significant minority either.

I don't think it's that out of the blue that someone likes a hero beer better than a NE style IPA. I came back from a VT/MA this summer with a KJJJ growler. I shared it with a few friends who all drink plenty of craft beer - but aren't on this site or untappd or out chasing WHALEZ. The response my one friend had was a muted - yeh that's a tasty beer. This same friend went over the top crazy the first time he tried both Lil Sumpin and Blood of the Unicorn.

People on this site or untappd are not only a small percentage of overall beer drinkers - they're not even that big a chunk of people who drink craft beer. Some of them want their IPAs bitter and clear. Their are a lot of brewers who think that unfiltered beer goes against centuries of what brewers have tried to do with beer.

Point is - I don't think citing untappd ratings or BA ratings means a beer is clear cut favored by a majority of people.

This is a dangerous bet, because @croush is one of the least "haze-crazed" dudes on this thread.

I think RAM Juicy is super average. I'll take Local Hero over that beer any day of the week.

Now, Hop Slush was fantastic. So different strokes.
