I would add on Ironica by 5 Rabbit. It's not fully an NE IPA, but it's close enough that I think if people are looking for a quick fix, it's a good option. The Forbidden Root and Noon Whistle stuff is more true to style, but Ironica is distributed in a 6-pack, and is cheap.

I personally have drank all the beers we have brought up. Galaxy Bowl doesn't touch Julius to me... I wouldn't send Galaxy Bowl to my TH/Trill guys Bc it doesn't stand up.. maybe in time HB will.. I'll send Mike's IPA and Rams... that's it.. maybe Sure Bet..

But to Haze/NvU point. I have drank with a ton of people in my day.. I have never met a single sole that has ever said NVU is better than Haze... maybe there are some out there but I've never met one...

I think it's palates... Chicago and the Midwest have grown up with maltier beers(PW, Two Hearted, three floyds, significantly more malts than Sip,Heady,

Idk... I just can't wrap my head around someone liking NVU over Haze.. I'm sorry...

Side note.. NE Slapper is the best IPA I've ever had out of the Chi!

In other words - yes, I really liked this and would recommend it.

I had this when I went a week or two ago. It's borderline not finishable at least for lunch. But excellent, for sure. I'll post that on Schnitzel Advocate.

Totally worth it if you can convince the powers that be...

People have done a good job of covering the bottles available. Unfortunately, you won't find any of these on draft at any bars, especially in River North. As has been noted in this thread, Chicago is much more of a "distro" city.

I prefer Galaxy Bowl batch 1 to Mikerphone's stuff, for what it's worth, and I've had the SS with galaxy (so it's a fair comparison). I can't speak for batch 2, and I freely admit that GB fell off in like 2 or 3 weeks, but fresh it is still up there with JIL as my favorites from this area.

It's funny, one of the things that I prefer about Alchemist beers (to some of the NE stuff) is the way the malt and yeast work with the hops. There's a backbone there, a fullness that isn't the same as in the more "typical" NE beers that I find really refreshing. I'm typically not a huge malt person when it comes to IPAs, but still.

But yeah, if you can't see why someone would like beer X over beer Y, you're still not accepting that different people have genuinely different tastes. I hate seafood, and yet a lot of people love that shit. At a certain point you just have to admit that you can't logically quantify taste.

No absolutely... I get that people like different things. I fail to see it when I drink the beer I mean. Like I don't see why ppl would prefer said beer.. but I get that people do! I've cracked some amazing beers this week and I keep talkin about Forbidden Roots Strawberrry Basil Hefe to people... different strokes.

Prop 13 is mine! (although honestly not a good beer for hot weather)

And yeah, the strawberry hefe is surprisingly good.

Well I meant a beer you can get pretty easy!

Cuvee of Darkness B1 is my #1 beer of all time. Can't wait for B2!

I had that when I went there and gotta agree - maybe the best or 2nd best Hefeweizen I've had. General props for that places creativity

    Here you go, @FBarber:[IMG]

I think whether you like this one is going to depend on how you feel about lemondrop hops. I don't love them myself, but this is an excellent beer overall. Good mouthfeel, a nice bready quality to the finish (well, nice if you like that sort of thing, which I do), and pretty well-hidden 8.5% abv.

So basically, if you're on the fence about the particular hop itself, skip it. But if you like lemondrop or just want to try this one, I'd give it a go. I'll definitely be back for whatever the next version is.

I grabbed it during Revolution's Deth's Tar release, a couple months back. I'm not sure if they still have them, but I have to think they can't be that hard to find.

This beer has changed a lot since the last time I had it (October 2016). Definitely hazy and has more of that "juicy" taste to it. Still needs a little work to get it to "full-on NE Style" but it is just about there IMO. I'd buy this one again.
