This is really interesting. Not sure about the zero IBU claim but I guess it's an easy way of saying no bittering hops, so maybe a super dry hopped gruit? Or just another way of pushing the bounds of the NE style. Either way I've heard good things about what these guys do with hops and it sounds like it'd be worth a try.

Yup. Lots of dry hopping. Haven't had it but it doesn't have any bitterness finish from what people are saying.

For those searching the haze, Twin Sails seems to be putting out new cans every 1-2 weeks now on regular basis, which is awesome. Slam Dank out now is prolly my second fav can from them after Space Armadillo, which is making a return soon-ish I believe.

Superflux is releasing 2nd batch of Happyness soon, so they will also have new cans out every 2 weeks it seems rotating with Colour & Shape for now.

Four Winds Blodberg is out and around, but sold out at the brewery. The Le Maison on tap there today was ridiculously good. Get that.

Boombox has some new stuff coming next week I think, they do a 'Boombox Wednesday' almost every week now to celebrate the launch of a new beer.

BC has been putting out some incredible beers.

Courtesy of @Benjjjamin, I've gotten to enjoy Juice Plus, Hot Take, Two Straws and Happyness over the past few days and they've been amazing. Had the SF/MT collab yesterday and it was one of my favorites as well. Makes me long for the days that Manitoba will have anything remotely comparable.

Give me mooooore Twin Sails. Would love to try Colour and Shape too.

I still haven't gotten my hands on Hot Take and now they're on to Slam Dunk. I can't keep up! Nice problem to have. I think I'm starting to get a little hopped out though.

I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but you can now take the skytrain all the way out to Port Moody from downtown with one or two transfers depending which way you go. Funny enough it really only saves 10 minutes compared to a bus...good ol Translink. At least at non rush hour times it's not much of a time saver.

Also Yellow Dog's expanded HUGE tasting room is open.

Looking for recommendations on local breweries near the Vancouver Convention Centre (or short taxi away) that are a MUST visit. I land at 1pm and plan on hitting as many as I can but need to prioritize!

    This was interesting: https://justinmcelroy.com/2017/02/05/ranking-every-brewery-in-metro-vancouver/
I don't entirely agree with the rankings, but I admire the methodology and thoroughness.

Most Vancouver breweries aren't so close to downtown. Steamworks and Yaletown Brewing are in the downtown area, but I would skip both. There's a cluster of breweries around Main Street near 7th (Brassneck, Main Street, 33 Acres, R&B...), a cluster sort of around Clark and Venables (Strange Fellows, Off the Rail, Bomber, Luppolo...), and a bunch north of Hastings in East Van (Parallel 49, Doan's, Storm, Callister, Powell Street...). Strathcona Brewing is closer to downtown, but they're fairly new and I haven't visited the brewery yet, although I have had their dark mild and it was very good. If you want to stay fairly close to downtown and only have time for one or two breweries, I'd probably pick Strange Fellows and Brassneck.

There's a Tap & Barrel right by the convention centre. I haven't been and can't vouch for it, but here's their tap list: http://www.tapandbarrel.com/files/menu-drink-TAP002.pdf
If you go there, in particular, I'd recommend Four Winds Nectarous Sour, Strange Fellows Nocturnum Dark IPA, and Crannog Back Hand of God Stout.

My favourite beer bar is St. Augustine's (at Commercial and N Grandview, a block from Commercial-Broadway skytrain). They don't have the best glassware, but they do have 60+ taps and an always changing taplist with a local focus (sometimes they do tap takeovers and that changes though). You can see their up-to-date beer menu at http://staugustinesvancouver.com/

Do you have any particular styles of beer you're more interested in or not interested in?

Closest to downtown I'd say Brassneck and Strange Fellows are must visit. There's plenty others close by as well within a 10-15 minutes cab at most. I'm curious what visitors consider downtown. To most locals it means the downtown peninsula and that's it. Gastown is not considered downtown really. But it's a 10 minute walk from the skyscrapers. Same for the start of East Van and/or Main Street areas.

Lots of event coming up around town.

Dieu Du Ciel Soiree is at Streel Toad Feb 25th, Peche day is at same location. PFriem has a tap takeover next Tuesday at Portland Craft. Farmhouse Fest tickets go on sale next Friday.

This is unreal ma! Thanks for this information. I'll definitely be checking out Brassneck and Strange Fellows since they seem to be the consensus. I wish I had more time.

I actually really enjoy all types of beer but I'm really into Saison/Farmhouse Barrel Aged beers right now and any lambic inspired brewed beers are always great. I went the Brussels and toured Cantillion and really like the process and the final product.

Just saw this article posted on a different site today, certainly some great info for a trip I have planned to Van in a couple months. One thing it doesn't really talk about though is whether any of these places do much for on site sales. I'm driving out and was planning to take back quite a few cases/bottles. Maybe someone here can suggest the best breweries for on-site sales or even quality stores, as opposed to places for pints/growler fills. So far from a previous thread it sounds like 4 packs of tall cans from Yellow Dog and Twin Sails are a given, and stores like Pacific Liquor, High Point LRS, and Bottle Jockey are worth checking out as well. Any other info would be great (such as where to get Superflux, since it seems like Callister is contract brewing for them). Thanks BC beer fans, can't wait to come and drink all your beer!

Superflux is/was contract brewing out of Dogwood. They used to be called Machine when they were at Callister. They still make their own beer though. In a couple months they may or may not still be brewing at the same place. Generally all the main shops have had them so far.

Almost every brewery does off sales, just depends on the season as to what's available. Brassneck is one of the only ones who doesn't package anything. Fills only. Four Winds does off sales and has 12 taps for on site. Dageraad in Burnaby and Steel & Oak in New West are def worth checking out. They tend to be ignored a bit because they aren't part of the East Van mass of breweries. Luppolo just opened. Andina is opening any day now. Cool new spots to check out.

Brewery Creek, Firefly, Viti, Denman Liquor Store, BCL at 39th & Cambie (flagship government store), Granville Liquor Store, Kits Liquor, Darby's. There's all kinds of shops, but those are all more 'downtown'.

    I come seeking information!

Just booked my Airbnb for my trip to Vancouver in July ... mid-July, so sadly missing Farmhouse Fest but I'm still hoping to make the best of it beer-wise. Tell me what I need to know! I'm staying one block off Commercial Drive, so it looks like I'm right by BierCraft for food/taps and Strange Fellows is only a few blocks away as well.

Planning on spending an evening checking out the area around P49/Callister and definitely an afternoon to check out Port Moody. What else would you recommend for your friendly Manitoban with a preference for hops and sours?

Liquor store recommendations are appreciated as well, as I'm bringing an empty suitcase to trek home.

If you're near Commercial Drive, you have many many options for beer, I like Biercraft, but it is far from the only and/or best option. It really depends what's on tap though.

I'd check out Tangent Cafe, St Augustines, Merchants (awesome food and can/bottle list), plus many other cool little restaurants with great beers on tap always rotating. Ask for Doug at Merchants and say I sent you, he's awesome.

Hit Callister on Wednesday if you can, likely to be Boombox night.

I also have to say you picked the wrong week :flushed: cause FHF is gonna be insane. I'll let ya know if there's any leftovers around town.

So many liquor stores, but check out Liberty on Commercial (right beside Merchants).
