I always thought a barrel aged IPA sounded awful but this puts it in a better light. Now I want to try one.

If this has any references to Doom (the game) then you have me sold. Knee Deep in the Dead Ale? Shores of Hell Bock? CYBERDEMON PORTER?!?!?!!??

Doom was good the first time around. I found it underrated, and this is someone who finds Founders overrated and their hops to be particularly mediocre.

I didn't find anything appealing about Doom the first time it came out. Like lizard of coz, this will sit on shelves for months. If you like this style of beer, you will be able to get plenty as there won't be much competition.

    Way to keep Michigan relevant.

Meanwhile let me scour my cellar to trade for the next triple dry-hopped lupulin powder IPA from Trillium.

Wtf is Founder's doing? LoK is OK. Frootwood is pretty good. Doom though? Again? Wasn't it a flop in 2013/14??? BA DIPA below 12% is ridiculous (my 0.02).

I think the reason Doom sat for so long back during the first release is that craft beer was much less popular then. In 2013 it wasn't too hard to get Bourbon County and variants were managable, but now it's very difficult to even get a bottle of regular. I traded for a bottle of Doom about a year ago and absolutely loved it. I will happily pick up several 4 packs of this if I can get my hands on it.

This one used to be known as hand of doom, I believe in reference to the Black Sabbath song-if I recall correctly, they were unable to use that name when they distributed it the first time and shortened it to 'Doom'

Last time the base beer for Doom was there Dipa Double Trouble. A beer I really liked at the time but just couldn't get my palette around the barrel aging. They no longer brew Double Trouble so I would be curious as to what the base beer would be, Might stand a chance if they use there Tripa Devil Dancer as that pretty much starts out a hoppy American Barleywine. Will have to try on tap first before I would purchase a bottle though.

Definitely looking forward to this; I liked Frootwood enough that I got a second four pack. Really liked Project PAM, which I know is a different barrel and a Black IPA base, but that was really enjoyable before. Didn't get to try Doom the first time, so excited to try this. I'm hoping they have enough maple syrup barrels for Better Half and CBS if they keep going to their back catalog for this series.

    Agree 100%.

Found this from my review of Doom 3+ years ago: "I don't love this one. It's OK; I just think the booziness overwhelms the characteristics that I like in a DIPA - i.e., the hoppiness. It's there, but you really have to focus to find it, since your palate is pretty much overwhelmed by the booze."

I may have a bottle laying around from the first release. I wasn't a big fan.

Vanilla CBS should be the end of the year.

Yes you are. Two totally different beer styles. Also love when people claim that aging an IPA will turn it into a barleywine.

Not really. Depends on the DIPA I would say. For example Devil Dancer. I would not be surprised if the label of that beer read "American Barleywine".

You didn't read what I said. I said an imperial IPA designed for barrels, not "an imperial IPA." I recognize the difference between and imperial IPA and a barleywine. But come on.. have you had devil dancer? There's a difference between what a style should be and what a brewery says they're making.

Haven't been a fan of many BA IPAs, but really thought BA Redankulous was phenomenal.
