So uhhhh what did others think of Nibs & Beans? I didn't think it was very good.

I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Served cold it was like a double chocolate speedway, a tad warmer and then you got the sweet and bitter chocolate fighting against each other. Room temp is when the vanilla began to shine through and pair really well.

I tried to blend it with a 2014 bass, bad idea there. I basically killed the vanilla and had a ba chocolate speedway, which wasn't bad either just that I killed off a flavor (this was on monday or so though since '14 wasn't on today).

I didn't get any of this. It almost tasted like root beer to me. Hammerhead was still delicious and as I expected.

root beer...wow, ok I haven't heard of ppl getting that flavor from this.

I had hammerhead today and felt the coffee was pretty dominant compared to what I thought I remembered it tasting like. Still good, was just surprising to me.

Honestly, was so excited to hear the Speedway move from the big 25 oz to 16 oz cans and 4 packs; seriously could not wait. Then heard that the cans were not sold in a four pack, like a lot of their peers, but individually. Wow.

Speedway has always held a special place in my heart and I go out of my way to support Alesmith.

I am so disappointed in their decision to move to individual cans, when the majority of the competition has so intelligently moved to multi-packs. Maybe I am missing something, but I can honestly never see me, or anyone else for that matter, making the decision to buy one can of speedway at $7.99, when other breweries have amazing imperial stouts for 30% of the cost, when considering a 4 or 6 pack.

The decision to move to a more efficient delivery system is keeping up with competition and a smart move, the decision to sell it as singles is shortsighted and ignorant at best.

i hope Alesmith wises up soon, because I for one have only so much room for nastalgia and other breweries are a much better value.

Who else in CA is selling a stout like Speedway in four or six packs? Cans or bottles?

Do people like imperial BB and emj? I don't like those cans. I'd take SS over them.

I personally enjoy IBB and for the sake of price per can/oz argument it is a good deal for a great imperial stout. Is it the can itself or the beer you don't enjoy?

It's still a slight $/oz savings with the format change to individual cans, so at least it's an improvement. Are you going to pay ~$30/4-pack?

A friend sent me several of both beers, and I didn't like them at all. Wouldn't buy regardless the price. I know others enjoy it, so I suppose I could of got bad batches or my palate just doesn't like ETB. Haven't tried any of their BA stuff.

I always find their stouts to have an overly nutty, almost savory flavor. I haven't been able to pin point what the flavor is, but I taste it in Cigar City stouts, too. Maybe it's like, a campfire smoke or something. I don't know, but it's strong in those beers.

Had Nibs and Beans, Hammerhead, and BA Wee Heavy over the weekend. I thought Nibs and Beans was great. Definitely light on the adjuncts, which is par for the course with AleSmith, but still a tasty beer. Hammerhead was very good, with some intensely bitter espresso notes. Definitely one of the most coffee forward beers I've had, as the name suggests. BA Wee Heavy was an absolute delight.

I wish AleSmith would do like, a double-mash Speedway. I love their variants, but they are too thin for my taste. I want to see like, Ten Fidy levels of viscosity.

So Boxcar Speedway has me thinking that SD Taproom didn't run through the logistics ahead of time. Turns out that they do NOT have a togo license, so this should be fun. Bolded the entertaining part.

    BoxCar Purchase Details:

    • BoxCar cans (12oz cans with commemorative BoxCar Box) will be for sale during our Anniversary Party Feb 25 & Feb 26th, for $16 + tax, no other fees, limit 2 per person.
    • Due to ABC regulations, the can itself must be picked up at AleSmith Brewing Company between Monday, February 27th and Friday, March 10th. Again, when you make your purchase at the Anniv party you will receive the commemorative box, you will then have until March 10th to get to AleSmith to pick up your BoxCar can.
    • You must bring the box and valid ID to AleSmith to redeem your can (the name of the person picking up at AleSmith must be the name of the person put down during purchase)
