It's fine. People make fun of all non-Vanilla variants and they have always been quite enjoyable. Haters gonna hate.

BTW- where they heck is the DLD announcement?

 

What announcement? Its not for another 3 months. Tickets used to go on sale 3/17ish...with details just the week or two before. How do people forget this year after year?

 

Bigglswade is great. I think it's a super solid variant.

 

Really? Really? Must we go there? This is usually the time of year they announce it and have the website go live. A simple perusal of their twitter site of last years announcement about this time yielded this nugget, seem familiar?

What was the announcement? A single tweet and and webpage with a date splashed across the front?

They already gave us the date months ago, so by that logic, they've already done just as much as last year. All that's left is to announce ticket sales, and last year that was announced on 2/26, when the fest was in April. Now it's in May.

Technically they could change up the everyone is guaranteed a variant thing this year and go back to scratch off. They could also sell their other beers to go in addition to DL like previous years. I realize this may be unlikely but we just dont know til the webpage goes live. Also I want something that I can point to for people(new local guys interested) who keep asking me details.

 

Some of these announcements aren't even made until like the morning of the Dark Lord Day.

 

Thats true on to go, but not on the variant. Thats based on ticket price/process.

 

... and we all know what they post on the website is pointless anyways as people will still ask questions on this thread that are easily answered in the FAQs

 

Trump and pump was amazing. Top notch IMO. I'd take it over VR, Prop, and plenty of other BA stouts.

Temaculan was a different story, cardamom goes so well with Mediterranean food, but didn't go well with the beer.

 

anyone know if FFF tests these DL variants in small batches before committing to a sizable amount to produce OR do they just go for it and it is what it is?

 

I would guess they just go for it. Most seem to be the whim of the brewers...

 

Totally agree. But that is announced when tickets are announced.

There's literally 2 announcements. The day tickets will go on sale, at which point the FAQ goes live, and the day variants are announced.

None of these announcements were live until 2/26 last year, and that's when the fest was 2 weeks earlier than this year.

 

Between following them (and other beer-related accounts) on Twitter, watching the boards here, etc., I'm not really concerned about finding out when tickets go on sale. Until then, I don't worry about what they'll charge, what the variants are, etc. It'll all happen in good time.

It looks like I'll be flying solo to DLD this year, so hopefully that will make it easier to snag one ticket, as opposed to two.

 

I managed to grab a single more than one hour after they went on sale last year after trying for the entire time for two.
