If the amount of your pour is determining your ability to converse, maybe it's not the beer.

I've been really enjoying the increase participation on these forum topics based off the BA articles. I think its a great addition to the website. Thanks Bros!

Back to topic, I think most everyone who orders flights/samplers at breweries still remember and probably feel that the best beer drinking experience is with a larger pour in a glass of preference of a great tasting beer and socializing with friends.

There is a best way to enjoy a beer and a best way to experience a brewery taproom visit with lots of beer options that you have never had/would like to taste test. Apples and oranges.

I think that flights are ok for the true beer lover who is looking to add another great beer to their regular rotation, but I've see too many folks who just buy flights to boost their check ins on social media sites like untapped. These folks aren't really drinking the beer because they enjoy it. They are drinking the beer because its cool or hip to say I've tried over 500 beers.

Kind of projecting on to them are you not? I would say it's perfectly possible someone can enjoy the beer and want to try as many as possible. You can enjoy beer without drinking a pint of it.

I assume author drinks Heady Topper out of the can? That's how the brewer intended it

I tend to agree with Andy on this one to a point. I agree that we should be enjoying pints and not taster trays. Where I diverge is in today's beer world one cannot know if they want a pint of any beer without first trying it. I went to a brewery that had won an award for a specialty beer they made. It wasn't on tap that day. Did a taster flight and found that missing beer was apparently the only beer worth having a pint of. I couldn't finish the tasters of the ones they had on tap, let alone a pint.

Well it's obviously because you weren't enjoying them as intended. If you had drank a pint of each you probably would have loved them.

I appreciate this article. This is something I've been trying to do anyway for myself. Whether other people do things like this, that is up to them.

Samplers vs pints...it all depends on how frequently you visit the brewery and how many of their beers you've had. Very frequent/had most everything on the menu, then pints is the way to go. Very infrequent visit, haven't had many of their beers before, then sample sizes is the way to go.
