I am trying to plan a trip from NJ to DC (maybe even further south) but with all of these new breweries popping up, I don't want to miss a good one because it's not on my radar. Anyone familiar with either area that can help me out. Was originally going to go to Rar, but would like other ideas as well.
    Thanks!

Not really on anyone's radar yet is Independent Brewing in Bel Air MD. coming down I-95 it would be a short detour up route 24. 22 taps of their own brew with growler fills and crowlers and 6-packs to go. Top choices would be their Carpe Diem DIPA, Nasty Woman IPA, and Cereal Killer oatmeal stout.
Coming into MD get off the first exit at route 279 and hit Stateline Liquors. Probably the best beer selection you will find anywhere.

Agreed. Went to Independent last night for first time and loved it! IPAs mentioned above are great and also enjoyed the Calibration. It is only about a ten minute drive from 95. Another great new brewery is Diamondback located right off 95 in Mchenry Row. Take the Key Highway exit. If you are going to Eastern Shore, Burley Oak is much better than RAR IMO.

Skip DC and go to Richmond. Better brewery destination by far.

Not sure of Nathan Zeender’s whereabouts, but if he’s still at Right Proper then hit’em up for ideology

Culinary beers that are meant to taste exactly like something are not where our interest are. If we make a beer with dandelions, it won’t be 100 pounds of them. We’re trying to take some floral character from the botanicals, but we never try to be heavy handed about it.

    Thanks! I guess that's a good option... What's a can't miss in Richmond?

Well, you want to hit The Veil, but depending on what they are releasing the week you go, you may not be able to get anything other than pours if you don't go Tuesday or Wednesday.

Also, have lunch at Mekong, they have an amazing taplist and awesome food. The same owner owns The Answer right around the block, and they brew and andall incredible beers.

Triple Crossings and Hardywood are also nearby, as well as Three Notch'd and the new Stone facility which is huge and beautiful, and they always have special taps up.

Union Craft in Baltimore, Manor Hill just west of Baltimore, Jailbreak just north of DC, Three Stars/ Right Proper in DC, Aslin/ Ocelot near Dulles, then go to Richmond for Veil, Hardywood, Answer. RAR is kinda out of the way on the other side of the Bay Bridge. Richmond would probably be your best stop.

No reason you can't hit Richmond and the DMV. I'll say Diamondback in Baltimore, Rar in cambridge, and Burley Oak in Berlin. This take the bridge-tunnel down to Virginia and loop back up through Richmond and DC

That being said, if you are able to go to RaR Dank Day or any of their other special can release days, that is worth it by itself. Best can release bottle share
I'm with this. Might as well hit it all if you have time. If you can throw in Ocelot and Aslin on top of all that, you will reach beervana.

As mentioned above, Union Craft and Diamondback both in Baltimore.
It is worth mentioning that Heavy Seas, a little south of Baltimore and just off 95 has a family run food bus parked on site. They make pretzels and pizza using spent grain from the brewery and also have pretty good burgers. There is a menu on the Heavy Seas website.

If you're into Stillwater, they have a bar in Baltimore called Of Love and Regret. There are some solid breweries in the general NOVA area (Crooked Run and Aslin) with some decent DC players (3 Stars and Right and Proper) but I'd encourage you to get out to Richmond. The concentration of breweries and their quality is excellent. I didn't see Ardent or Isley mentioned here but I'd add those as worth a look. If you can hit RAR, I would but it's a little ways out.
