Mine was labeled 2016 edition, but bottled end of 2015. It was a pretty big let down, way worse than BCBS ever has been infected, since I bought the bottle near The Bruery (gas station around the corner I think) after trying it there.

Oh man I somehow missed this bit of info, I bought two of the '15s, drank one right away that was great, and stashed one. Guess I better go check.

There are both good and infected bottles out there, not sure which batches went bad but I've had one great and one infected at shares.

Well shit - I have one of those bottles. I'll spin the roulette wheel and see how it goes.

Opened my second bottle...definitely infected. Not as bad as a few of my bcbw's but definitely a bit tart and off...bummer.

Everyone seems so surprised that a brewery that produces a bunch of sours has problems brewing clean beers...

They opened Terreux to separate facilities to avoid this exact thing.. So it is surprising! (Unless Im wrong?)

There's no mention of surprise in my post. Solely observation. I've had several of their beers with no compromise of quality or unexpected flavor. Lots of others are able to do this (brewing sours and other styles without carryover/compromise), and I don't doubt the Bruery can as well. Posted my bottle's production details as info for others in the BA community.

This is correct, and therefore it is surprising.

I have a 2016 Edition, B#3531, 9/20/16, blueish/purple foil. Hopefully it is not infected, fuck 14.7% ABV on this one.

    Cheers!

I had called bruery regarding the possibility of white oak being brewed with brett, not because it was off, but because I have an allergy to brett. They informed me that, while it is intended to be a clean beer, there is a distinct possibility it has brett in it from accidental innoculationm

that was to keep their own sours separated from their own production that wasn't intended to be sour.

that doesn't stop barrels they acquire from harboring unwanted micro-organisms. i've speculated for awhile we'd see increases in infected BA iterations. some of it may be explained / excused in the notion there's just so many being produced, the number of possibilities are skyrocketing. i would agree that's a factor, at the same time, i'm highly skeptical of the existing barrel supply at large. i do think the increased production of BA beers has exacerbated the issue in that brewers are probably forced to take on barrels that may be less optimal particularly in the "chain of custody" dept. which may equate to poorer or improper maintenance/storage in the span between distiller to brewer delivery.

    (1) Recall So Happens it's Tuesday
    (2) Slap on Tart of Darkness Label
    (3) Send back into distro

I wondered if that was the reason why they opened Terreux. I really hope this is not so

Well yeah a beer could become contaminated by any surface or part it ever comes into contact with, but that wasn't what I was addressing. The point I was addressing was: "They make sour beer, therefore it shouldn't be a surprise that their clean beer gets infected." The response is: "They don't make their sour and clean beer in the same facility, so their own cross contamination isn't possible. Therefore it is more surprising." I.e. that they make sour beer doesn't effect their clean beer. I'm not trying to argue there aren't an infinite number of things that could contribute to infection. That make sense?

yep. your response here makes perfect sense. the response i quoted before kinda reads like :"They opened a separate facility, this should not be a problem".

you elaborating clarified. i guess for those that do understand, i should've assumed the word "surprise" is meant more to point out "irony" as opposed to actually being caught by surprise? as in : the Bruery built a facility to avoid the issue but still finds themselves facing it.

This happened with an Oude Tart I bought. They told me the exact same thing, but sent me a goblet and a keychain that broke on literally first bottle I tried to open. Then I saw OT on sale at a shop by house, "on sale" for $12/750, silly me didn't re-check the date before I bought one, but it was indeed the same date. Also flat.

Fast forward about 6 months, last week I went to Costco and they had OT for $9.67. Did check the date, same as the first two. Fucking ridiculous. I used to love that beer but not if they think it should be sold flat, which apparently they do.
