I also need a fast pass line. I'm a white male with an advanced degree and do not want to wait in line with the peasants.

Claims about someone's social media views aside, I don't think it is outrageous to think Cigar City should remain consistent with important communication about their event.

Traditionally that has been via e-mail, and I would classify the opportunity to buy an early access pass as rather important -- especially if I was someone who had just shelled out for two 12-bottle tickets.

To the uninformed, a 15 minute early access pass with a pool of 100 people may seem trivial, but what it really could be saving you is an hour or more in a line and getting you more assured access to the zomgwhale beer that might otherwise kick before you would get in.

I'm sure they considered it, but sending out an e-mail notice this late in the game probably would have resulted in more work than would have been worth their while, hence the more casual social media post.

Some more forethought would have been nice, but this wouldn't be the first time someone at the brewery made a questionable last-minute call.

A few years ago, CC went out of their way to inform Hunahpu Day attendees they should avoid lining up incredibly early, as the event and it's entry were going to be more smoothly run than previous years and getting in wouldn't be a problem.

Somehow a select number of people got word that lining up at the crack of dawn to be the very first to get in -- against the wishes of CC -- was actually going to be a good idea.

They then proceeded to buy entire cases of Double Barrel Hunahpu, with no per-person limit.

Coincidence that some of them had the $500-$1000 cash on them to buy all that beer? I think not.

And yes, as an El Cat member for 6 consecutive rounds, I'm still a tad salty over that one

I don't point fingers or take any of this personally -- there are more important things in life to get worked up about and I'm happy to have CC and a number of other amazing breweries here in Florida doing what they do.

So what beers on the Huna Day list look good to everyone?

is CCB doing a mystery grab bag again this year?

What breweries are worth visiting while down there?

What bottle shops do people recommend?

What are the best non-ticketed TBBW events?

(insert any other question here to get back on topic)

I got there at 9 (from Orlando) and was first 100 in line. No one told me to be there early or not to be there early. A buddy and I were in line to buy merch and some girl comes out of the front doors and says if you are here for the bottle release line starts here.
The only advance warning they gave about the extra ECC bottles going on sale was a cryptic tweet about special bottles being available the previous night ( i didn't find out about that until the girl at the register said something) .

My buddy and I looked at each other and we had just won the lottery without having to buy a ticket first. As the line grew no one in the front 20 knew what the bottles would be, only after they posted the sign with the beers available and limits did we know we hit the jackpot. Buddy and I each got a case of DBH just $300 by the way. There were no limits on the other bottles they would have sold you a pallet of GGAM if you wanted it. I did speak to Wayne about it on that Sunday in the taproom. He said it was a last minute decision to get rid of the inventory and free up space int he cooler.

That was just a being in the right place at the right time,,, Just like the Early Entry passes. If you happen to be on FB or IG or Twitter at the time they pushed it out, You got a chance.

    Slightly wrong on the timeline.
2013 - Last of the pay to play Hunaphu's Day
2014 - Hunapocalypse (Fake tickets, "Dont show up early!" - Geiger)
2015 - Last Huna at CCB (Still very long line in the beginning, showed up at 10, took 40 minutes to get in)
    2016 - Downtown Huna

Edit: also looking at the way CCB is doing their beer this year, I like it. I like the fact they're putting their own beer at each of the beer tents in addition to the big truck.

They did the exact same thing last year (dropped the link on social media with no warning), so why would anyone expect them to do the same thing this year? It's hardly a "questionable last-minute call" if you do the same thing that you did previously in the past.

All this talk about an email and a lottery and so on is missing the point that what they did was quick and painless for what's a relatively minor aspect of the event in the grand scheme of things. The passes sold and they didn't have a DDG-style server overload = win from CCB's perspective.

As someone who was there that day, this is an inaccurate representation of what happened. I showed up about an hour early, partly because I had nowhere else to be, and got in quickly. Immediately lined up at Toppling Goliath along with some other early entrants. There was no real line anywhere else, and the first people in were certainly not waiting for bottles (nor had they got there at the crack of dawn). That line started to build -slowly- while the TG and Wakefield lines were hundreds of people deep. I know this because it was visible from the TG line. Also lots of people were already carrying cash for regular Hunahpu bottles, so it's not like anyone needed early warning to have enough money. I got a message from a friend about the DB Huna bottles and jumped in line after I'd gotten pours at TG and the festival had already started.

Didn't go last year so I'm not familiar with how things went before. And as I mentioned, I get the rationale behind why they did it but would argue it is not as minor as one might think and Sabtos' rant is not without some merit.

I too was there that day and had a great time - even made a few comments here on BA defending CC on some criticism they took both before and after the event.

Based on your response, the only inaccurate detail in my post lies in my insinuation that the people in line early were not all there by pure coincidence, and they weren't in line quite as early as I alleged. Obviously I was one of the not-in-the-right-place-at-the-right-time people who actually got to the event when they told us to -- a mistake I did not repeat the following year.

It still stands as an example of a last minute call (which Frankenmiller just confirmed) that didn't seem very well thought out, deserving of some tempered commentary with the hope that in the future when decisions are made about similar situations, they're given a little extra scrutiny.

Great to see and see it split amongst tents. Highly recommend the 2016 cheers beer, which is like drinking coconut double barrel Bolita.

For the Mazurt fans that are going to Huna. No pictures but they said they would refund your money if you were unhappy with the t-shirt or hat design.

"Unfortunately there will be NO MAZURT Merchandise sales during the Huna Festival…BUT if you buy Shirts and/or Hats in advance you can pick ‘em up at the festival. Email [email protected] with what you want T-Shirt($15) and/or Glow in the Dark Baseball Cap($15) along with shirt size and phone number. We will email to you a PayPal email address to Pre-Pay. im sure this has been answered but dont feel like re reading all these posts but how are the lines for beers especially interested in ccb lines, can you walk right up and get a beer or do you have to be more strategic with what beers you want to try because of long lines?

CCB is easily accessible early on while everyone is whale chasing. Gets much busier as the day goes on as kegs dry up.

I normally just lurk here, but I have to say that as a multi-year attendee of Hunahpu's Day I came to the conclusion long ago that CCB isn't very good at the details of event planning. Most of the time they get the big stuff right - great breweries show up with great beers - and I always enjoy the festival which is why I keep coming back - but if you are at all "Type A" or tend toward high blood pressure or are at all detail oriented you just have to resign yourself to a bunch of the details being not well considered and some of that being maddeing.

There is some revisionist history here about last year which is why I'm chiming in. People should remember that it was the first year in a non-brewery location. Given the newness of the situation, friends and I were really trying to figure out when to line up. Everyone on here should remember that CCB was saying over and over that people would not be permitted to line up before a certain time, and if you lined up before that time you would be dispersed by them and the police. This was a constant reminder - all over the place on their social media - and they were even repeatedly pushing it out on the app up until the very start of the event. Like idiots, my friends and I believed this and waited to get in line until about 15 minutes before CCB said we could (we thought we were being outlaws by being 15 minutes early). Of course, that was stupid - the line was well over 1,000 people long by that time - and then we found out that CCB not only did not disperse people who lined up contrary to their instructions, but at the very time that they were sternly telling people that they would be immediately dispersed for lining up too early they were actually rewarding the people who defied their instructions. Hard for even the most ardent CCB fanboy to justify any of that.

This year I'm one of those fools who bought 12 bottle tickets when they were first released not really wanting 12 bottles but thinking that all the other tickets were sold out and that that was my only chance to attend. I would have loved to have the 4 bottle tickets instead, but I got hoodwinked.

And I do agree that email would have been a much fairer and more logical way to announce the early admission tickets - it is much more directed to the attendees, and many people aren't able to check Twitter in the middle of the work day but they do get email. But while CCB just using Twitter irritated me because I would have gotten an email but I didn't see the tweet until hours later, I do wonder if CCB didn't use email here because their access to our email addresses is tied to their ticket broker and they wanted to sell early admission through their own web store vs. through the ticket broker because they didn't want to pay commissions. Who knows. They dont' say. They never say.
