    @Scott17Taylor

    The Info I found was on the six pack holder for brown shugga on the handle. I don't have it on hand.

    I feel like I remember that but I may just be tripping. This flying fish exit 4 is catching up to me lol. I only know of 21st amendment doing lower the boom in 8oz cans.

    Checking in for tonight's offering. Good to see such a huge spread of different takes on the style. Allow me to go further down the rabbit hole with Fort Collins Brewing Oldwyn Old Ale. This beer is barleywine lite, pouring a deep garnet hue, with an off white head. The nose is all caramel and prune. Flavors of caramel and toffee up front, dark prune in the middle, fading to a bitter chocolate on the backside. Mouthfeel is nice, not as thick and heavy as it's big brother barleywine, and a touch more carbonation keeps the beer from coating the palate. Overall what a great beer.

    I had a six lying around . " We were making our Gnarlywine back in '98 , messed up the recipe , and this Elegant Accident is what we got . "

    OK, moving on to hopefully better beers.

    Like @Scott17Taylor said, the port barrel is really prominent in this one. Ive had the non-barrel aged base harvest ale, and I've got to say that this port cask compliments that beer so well. Its a rich flavor with lots of dark fruit and wine notes - with that thick port like flavor. A joy to drink.

    I'm for it. Style guidelines can be far and few in between. That to me drinks more like a barleywine than anything else. Cheers.

    Yes, I'm late to the party, but what's a party without an afterparty?!???
    Tonight, my barleywine of choice was Avery Hog Heaven, their so-called "Dry Hopped Barleywine". I had never had this before, so I was going in blind.

    It comes in a hazy dark amber color. The head is creamy and beige. Smells of sweet, sugary malts and dried fruit. Caramel, toasted bread, brown sugar; dried apricot, papaya, prunes, and white raisins.
    The taste follows the nose. The mouthfeel is medium-full, nice and chewy and bready, with medium carbonation.
    Granted, I don't know the age of this bottle, but this is one of those beers that crosses the line between really old DIPA and barleywine. It's very malty, sweet, with subdued hop characteristics. The dried fruits character is nice, though. It's good, but it lacks some of the complexities I expect from a barleywine.

    I arrived home late last night after visiting family in Maryland and wasn't able to post this till now. One of my contributions to yesterday's beer tasting was Vengeful Heart, an American Barleywine brewed by Kane Brewing Company. I While I prefer English Barleywines, this one is very good.

    Avery has relabeled this as a red ipa. So no surprise it tastes like an old dipa.

    It used to be listed as a dry hopped barleywine, but recently Avery relabeled it as an IPA. Probably more accurate.

    That makes me wonder how old this bottle was. I couldn't find any sort of a date on it anywhere. I'm curious to know.

    I walked into a brew pub for dinner last night, and to my surprise the special beer on tap was one of their barleywines from 2011. I had to get a glass just to check it out. It was a weekend of barleywines. I couldn't ask for much more then that.
