seems Dry Hop have their NE IPA on tap now called "One Step Beyond".

I've never had any of their beers though, so I have no idea how they are in general.
Anyone go and try this one?

Thinking of going to the "tap takeover" thing they are doing on Wednesday with Forbidden Root, Hailstorm, and Hubbard's Cave.

The most recent batch of spotted puffer may be my favorite hoppy bomber release from pipeworks since the original release of Sure Bet. It's amazing. To be honest I don't think there is much out there that compares with NvU and Navaja. Those two beers are amazing.

Gotta love living in the time where you can almost guarantee NvU and Navaja will be on the shelf at Binny's in 4-packs. I remember it being a treat if my local Binny's still had some NvU bombers on the shelf

Not agreeing with you that 2 week old zombie dust is unenjoyable, but even if it does fall off, it doesn't fall off nearly as quickly as most of the HB NE'style IPAs, or some of the other ones out there.

Drinking it right now from a crowler that was filled yesterday. Definitely has the hazy look right. A little bit darker than the 2/8/2017 batch of Hailstorm Stratus (for reference since most of you had the Hailstorm recently). Not much carbonation after the head dissipates shortly after you pour it.

Not too aromatic, but when you swirl it in the glass, it gives off a pleasant aroma of mild citrus and something else which I'm going to say is some stone fruit (I'm not great at beer reviews LOL). It's not very bitter at all (the Hailstorm is a tiny bit more bitter). Tastes of tropical, melon and citrus (mostly melon flavor to me at first with the citrus coming in towards the back). Not a big citrus bomb like the Hailstorm one is, but I think that's ok. When I drink this beer, I think "melon bomb" and that's not a bad thing to me.

I consider it a great first effort if this is Dryhop's first NEIPA sold to the public. I would buy this one again and happily drink it.

So what I'm hearing is DryHop is doing their part to maintain average?

Those breweries just refer to those beers as IPA or DIPA. Not "NE IPA" for me that just makes it stand out that everyone is chasing their product.

So apparently Noon Whistle will have another NE IPA dropping on 3/16. Also, they're experimenting until they find one they really like to start canning. I'm hoping it's Funny Gummy

No, I haven't had any of the flavored variants, although I would've liked to. I'm not even really looking for a fruited version, but just a little more sweetness either from the malt bill or sugar in the boil.

I cruised through my Narrow Gauge crowlers, but have to share my Noon Whistles.

What did you think of the narrow gauge stuff?

I thought Cloud City was great. I'd put it at the top of my Chicagoland list (JiL, Galaxy Bowl 1, Special Sauce) if brewed here. FWIW, I've yet to have Shaun's stuff, unfortunately. For some comparison sake, Cloud City has a one hop difference from Funny Gummy, but I found it much more drinkable due to my preference in sweetness. Not that Cloud City is super sweet, just more balanced, imo.

I also had Hoppy Meal, which is their APA with Mosaic and Simcoe, which was also fantastic.

Not to get too far off the rails, but it just so happened, unbeknownst to myself (though my wife is still skeptical), that they were releasing their stout, Zavtrak as we were driving through. While very, very good, not sure it was hour+ in line good.

HB has gone off the rails again. Good to see them calling the next beer a haze bomb rather than a NE style ipa. Triple dry hopped and using mosaic powder? Anyone not burned by the Orange trying it?

I'm interested in trying it just for the lupulin powder experiment.

EDIT: Although I'd feel more confident if it were a brewery more consistent with their hoppy stuff trying something new.

The triple dry-hopping sounds like this one could be very good, so I'm curious. I was definitely a little burned by Burnt Orange, but I generally like HB's stuff. Not sure if I'm going to pick this up yet (depends on what my fridge looks like, and what else is out), but I'm certainly curious.

If it doesn't pan out, you can always boil the beer down and snort the lupulin powder...

IMO, most things I've had from Narrow Gauge are better than any NEIPA I've had from the Chicagoland area. But like you said, they are less "juicy" and sweet and have a more pronounced hop bitterness that I prefer.

Totally agree! Hoppy Meal is my favorite from them, but cloud city is also really good. The only Chicago NE-style IPA id put up there with Narrow Gauge is Sean's Juicy.

I wasn't down there while zavtrak was on, but I had heard good things. Their stouts/porters have been good, but the IPAs are the real draw.

I dont think this is NE style, doesn't say so on the event page on FB nor does it look hazy...

"Thursday 3/9 we are kicking off our Hop Prism IPA series - Purple, 7.6% Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic hops. This is the first in our Hop Prism IPA series which will be released at the brewery and distribution (so look and ask for it at your favorite watering hole). This series will be released next to our Hazy Gummy series."
