"Vermont-Style" IPAs?

In jumping the shark news, even McMenamins has a NE style IPA. It's actually not bad imo.

 

Iron Goat just dropped their "Back East" New England-style IPA. Favorite Iron Goat beer yet. Very true to the style.


Perry Street Brewing also just tapped their first New England-style IPA in a monthly, year-long series they're doing. Will report back this weekend when I've had a chance to pickup a growler of it.

 

I just picked up a sixer of Silver City Tropic Haze an hour ago. Stoked to give it a try tonight.

 

I can't wait to try it myself. I'll probably go out this weekend to see if I can find some.

 

3 Magnets is putting out a lot of hazy IPAs. I think I've tried three ones so far and they're all pretty bad. Overly opaque, nothing special in the aroma and taste, and a bit of an almost gritty mouthfeel. I will avoid.

 

Little Juice Smoothie was nice but I didn't care for Hazy Hero.

 

So what do people think of the Tropic Haze? Any good?

I just had a can last night and liked it. From my knowledge this is Silver City's first release of a hazy IPA and I think they did a great job for being their first one. Some hazy IPAs don't have enough juice/hop flavors for me, or are too thin. This one is a very well balanced hazy IPA, nice juicy nose and is very drinkable. I'd buy it again.

 

This is a pretty accurate summation of my thoughts as well. It's very drinkable and manages to balance the grapefruit rind bitterness with the juice quite well. Not overly fruity, not a bitter bomb. Good mouthfeel, well priced.

As far as how it compares with what we have out here, I wouldn't put it in the echelons of a Great Notion, Block 15, or Holy Mountain. Hopefully they continue to iterate on the beer, as well as experiment further.

Unless you can see a Godzilla-esque creature (w/ a beard, and nice legs) voraciously consuming large quantities of beer, then the answer is "not yet."

Sooo, over the weekend I drank a bunch of these hazy IPAs, because I got sucked in by the hype, and all I have to say is I'm washing the taste out of my mouth with a Gobsmacked.
