I keep hearing that the line for Evil Smoosh was nuts. Who's got the deets?

    Hello all-

Just started posting so I apologize if this has been posted sometime in the past. Just thought I'd throw out some additional fodder for discussion.

Sole will be holding its first Society event on Sunday, the 19th in Easton. The initial financial commitment was steep, especially for a relatively young brewery. That said, I took the plunge primarily because I enjoy their beer and am willing to support a brewery that has had a positive impact on the communities in northeast PA where they have been doing just about all of their brewing. It's exciting that they will be moving into their own facility soon but I hope they keep close ties to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area.

I don't have the lifestyle that allows for spending hours traveling to releases or waiting in 4 hour lines to get my allotment. That said, Sole clearly has created a formula that has worked for them thus far. They seem to be branching in many directions at a breakneck pace so it'll be interesting to see how well they can sustain this. There was a spirited debate on their Instagram page when they announced distribution to Europe stemming from their partnership with Jeppe. Some of the critics made some valid points but it's amazing to listen to how entitled some people act.

When it comes down to it, when a brewery like Sole succeeds, many of us reap the benefits. It's hard not to root for them to do well.

Thanks. I didn't get copied on the press release. Glad you could cut and paste it so it would look like you were posting something.
    Kudos

By positive impact do you mean having people camp out all night, drinking, pissing on the neighbor's property and fighting? Just wondering

Wouldn't normally share something like this but I was really rubbed the wrong way...stopped by a local spot on my way home from work Friday as they posted Evil Smoosh on tap. I've had previous Sole beers there at reasonable prices, however since they don't post prices maybe this one's a "fool me once" scenario and that's on me. After putting down $10 for a 10oz pour figuring I'd get change for a tip, I get 75 cents back. The guy next to me also drinking Evil Smoosh was equally amazed/blown away. A sucker's born every minute and apparently this time it was me

Wherever that was is out of line. I paid $6 for a 13 oz serving yesterday. I'm mathing before having any coffee but that's $0.46 per ounce, exactly half of what you got charged. Could your bill have been a mistake? Where was this if you don't mind me asking?

No, I've heard the horror stories though.

I was referring more to the fact that Sole's presence has made the area a bit of a craft beer destination. I'm sure other breweries like Susquehanna and Breaker have benefitted from Sole's presence.

Clearly I'm new to the boards- I didn't realize Sole was a toxic word around here for some.

Sounds like you went to TheMint, I love that place. I wish it was a mistake - that was my first question and was told it wasn't a mistake, that's where the craft beer market is now. It was Torre in The Promenade.

Don't sweat it. Sammy feels better about herself after making hostile posts on message boards. That's how decent human beings act as members of a "community" in 2017.

Hope the Søle membership works out for you.

Thanks. You'd think I was on the payroll with the way my eyes were nearly scratched out.

At any rate, I'm looking forward to the first event. We'll be getting 6 bottles of a yet to be announced beer. I've never traded on here before but I'm sure I'll try to do so with at least 1 bottle.

Thanks for the considerably less hostile welcome!

Welcome as well, agree with the like of Sole and not understanding why there is some much hate on this forum for them. I agree the 'hype' is perhaps a little ahead of their actual 'product'. But, seriously, that is no reason to hate on them. I look at is as a super smart business model and try to learn from it in my (completely unrelated) business. Also - I have been to 6 out of the last 8 Sole releases and have had a great time each one. Never had any issues, never had to wake up early or do anything other than trade for some awesome beers, drink a few, and walk away with my full allotment...

Thanks- nice to meet you. My guess is that the hate stems from the fact that people mention Sole beers in the same breath of Tree House, Trilium, Tired Hands, etc. The fact that people are willing to trade beers from these breweries for the latest Sole releases says SOMETHING. Perhaps the haters feel as though Sole hasn't paid its dues, creates artificial demand with its hype, or makes beers that are good, but nowhere near the level of the breweries that are drawing comparisons. Either way, they're clearly doing something right and it's hard to be critical of a company that's willing to take calculated risks to be successful.

That's ridiculous. I can only speak for the area north of the Lehigh Valley and the prices for Sole on draft is in line with everything else on the tap list.

You can't blame the brewer if a bar is charging high prices.
Now if their beers are significantly more than everyone else's everywhere you go, that may be a different story.

It does..hard not to get excited. My one hesitation is that their bottled stuff hasn't matched up to the cans. I'm sure expectations will be higher than the national debt, but I'm sure they will deliver. It'd be nice to have BEFORE we get 2 feet of snow tomorrow!
