I'll be heading to SoCal for a Bruery pickup and I'm looking for Alpine and Kern River. I've had some luck at the provisions, but they had nothing last time. Any tips on bottle shops to check would be awesome. Thanks!

The only alpine I've seen in the area are captain stout and alpine ale. The only place you'll find either on a consistent basis is much closer to alpine and Kernville respectively.

Damn. In 2011 the Provisions had Kern's Class V and Just Outstanding, and some red ale from Alpine. Last time there was nothing.

Class V and Just Outstanding have pretty much dried up in central Orange County. As you said, Provisions used to have it consistently last year as did Total Wine in Tustin. I've only seen it "in the back" at a few south county shops that I never would have thought to have craft beer.

You can try Hollingshead as well but their Alpine stuff is usually saved for regulars it seems. Alpine Ale was at provisions last Friday.

Yeah the popularity of both has grown to more than they can produce. In the last year at alpine I have seen bottle limits at the Betty drop from a case to six and now a max of four per style and half the time they are even out of bottles at the brewery. I have a friend who likes Nelson and I used to pick it up for him regularly but over the last for times I was there they only had Nelson bottles once.

Hollingshead is awesome - if you've never been, go! I've had luck with a bottle of Alpine here and there from Hi Time Wine in Costa Mesa, fwiw.

I would love to visit Hollingshead, but I'm always in Orange on a weekend when they're closed.

It appears you are driving from Windsor? If you drive through Bakersfield you can get stuff. We are hoping to deliver a load of pumpkin and Jo to our distributor in so cal next week. Not sure if that is too late for you.

Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa tends to have Kern River and Alpine when it's difficult to find elsewhere. Also, Whole Foods in Tustin carries limited quantity stuff that may be hard to find if you stop in on the right day.
