I'd happily subscribe for more innovative, in-depth, compellingly written reporting from respected journalists. I subscribed last year and seldom found that the articles did more than "scratch the surface."

I know it's not free to send good journalists out on assignment, but I'd be much more likely to pay a bit more for good writing, than pay less for softer, shorter features.

Thanks for your feedback. We do strive for in-depth writing and publish two feature articles in the neighborhood of 2,000 words in every issue. And that's in addition to a number of mid-length interviews, profiles and columns that regularly appear in our pages.

If you have a few minutes to browse our archive, I'd be interested to know which pieces you would deem as only "scratching the surface," and which articles you found more compelling.

I'll take a look and refresh my memory. Off the top of my head... I loved the premise of that story about the pH1 barrel that found its way from Russian River to New Belgium to Rare Barrel, but still I felt there was a lot of meat left on the bone at the end of that article.

You make a fair point—that article definitely could have been longer. One of my challenges every month is balancing the potential of a story topic with my budget, my editorial schedule, available page space, the writer's experience, and our art options. Juggling those factors means that sometimes I can't let a contributor stretch out as much as I might like to.

Anyway, if you're inclined to offer any more feedback on the mag, I'm all ears.

It was a pretty awesome cover, wasn't it? Badass comparison you made there. Awesome! Hope you enjoyed the article! Cheers!

Sure there is a reason to subscribe. I took BA up on the first time subscriber deep discount subscription. I just got my first issue today and it is wonderful. It's first class; the print job, the photography, layout, and wonderful ads (yes, the wonderful ads I disdain in any other publication).

I have read that the magazine is free to read on this site; I'm too dumb and lazy to figure out where it's all at. I'll be renewing when this runs out. You don't carry your laptops and dumbphones to the crapper do ya'? That's just nasty!

Great job! Keep up the good work!

The magazine is fantastic. I read it cover to cover. If I let my subscription run out and decided to read articles on the site, I know I would probably just read an article here and there, whatever headline catches my eye, but I know I wouldn't enjoy the experience of getting the magazine every month and reading it all within a couple days. And it's so cheap to subscribe, it's well worth it. It seems like there are promotions at least a couple times a year, take advantage of those when it's near time to renew.

I sub because I like to support BA and allow them to use the funds to provide us new services and make the current ones great. It is a minimal cost and you get a lot for the money.

Absolutely. Have you ever tried to read an online magazine while sitting out in the sun? It's impossible!

I just got my first copy, I made it to page 10 so far and it's already worth the $1 an issue price. Honestly the cost is so low, I don't know why you wouldn't subscribe just to support this site and the people who run and contribute to it. It's the only magazine subscription I currently have and the first in probably 10 years.

Support the site, sign up today for LESS than the price of a cup of coffee ( said in a Audrey Hepburn voice)

I like the hardcopy because when it's staring me in the face on my nightstand every evening I don't forget to read it. If it were locked up in my phone I might forget about it...

Yeah there still is. Originally I just got it to support the site.

The site has saved me from buying bad beer. 'Course it's also cost me a lot more because good/great beer experience encourages buying more beer. :stuck_out_tongue:

I take it with me and read the hard copy when I'm waiting for one reason or another. (I still have a Dumb Phone. ; ) ) .

Also, it has been useful for others on occasion. (Books, beer reviews, recipes.) Probably better for spreading the beer-love, and bringing in new people, than an email sometime later.

Thanks for reading and supporting what we do. Story suggestions are always welcome. Who or what should we know about in New York? Or maybe there's a subject you'd like to see us cover?

I just wish I would get my print copy before articles from the new issue go online. I live in MA. Why does it take so long?

We are working on a new schedule this year and should have the print out a littler earlier compared to previous years. Having Feb be a short month didn't help for the March issue but we are working on this!!! Thanks for your support!!

You can leave it lying around the house conspicuously hoping some visitor you didn't know was into beer mentions it. And if they don't mention it you can assume the are privately thinking how awesome you are.

This thread just inspired me to renew my subscription... Like a dumbass, I let it lapse and I've missed it... Yes, I can read the articles online but... I like holding the magazine, turning the pages, etc...
