I can't honestly see how someone would prefer standing in line unless they hope to cheat the system by bringing mules or line cutting. It's hard for me to see how someone is ok with devaluing their time that significantly.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly why.

I don't know, others beg to differ: https://www.craftbeer.com/craft-beer-muses/long-beer-lines-worth-waiting

Me? I thumbs up your reply however, the most I'm willing to wait is perhaps 2-3 hours depending on the rarity of said liquid nonsense (Very rare i do this, as it's usually an hour at most) ie quinqennio.

I'm not even including the end result as a factor in my thinking. Even if I get a bottle, I still wasted half a day to do so. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Seriously... If people camp overnight for Monkish, what would they have done for this bottle? I'll take an F5 fest or a raffle any day.

Acknowledged, it makes no sense whereas others don't seem to want to partake in other much more important matters. I suppose if this is simply what you seek then so be it & trade away when you could be using your time much more wisely.

There's a balance when it comes to policing these kind of releases. My girlfriend and I live together and she was actually reminding me to pick up a raffle ticket because she probably wants a bottle more than I. It would be a shame if we got DQ'd because we share an address and beer tastes. I think bottle logic understands that so I'd be surprised if they flagged same address accounts.

I'm wondering what the geographic diversity of his sample was. Also, he mentioned the two most prominent motivations were exploration and sharing and wonder where "acquiring trade bait" would fall on the ranking of responses.

Agreed. I missed out, but going into I knew what to expect. Rather miss out this way, than because I didn't want it enough to be in line all night. Still got this pride intact.

On the bright side, I was able to close out a deal for rare scooop and cycle Thursday. I got that going for me.

Back in my day all releases were in person. And we had to wait in line in the snow. Uphill both ways. You kids have it easy

Sometimes that's not even enough. Folks who waited 5 hours in the rain got shut out at the most recent Holy Mountain release. Unless the brewery institutes a more equitable solution like an online sale or lottery, then the line gets even longer if the rate of popularity continues. There's always a certain level of uncertainty involved so if you're determined, you end up continually increasing your wait threshold and if nothing else matters but acquiring the product, you end up camping out overnight. At least with a lottery or online sale, you typically only spend 5-10 minutes.

I landed a bottle therefore the system works. I'll continue to advocate this type of release until I miss out. At which point I'll proceed with the complaints.

Or you show up after work (Cuz the roads were closed from all of that snow and then your engine blew)only to find out your wife who went to said release hours before you didnt even get a bottle. (Sold out right in front of her) Then to have some cool dude offer one of their bottles....

Granted my toes were frostbitten but that neck beard kept me going...

Sometimes in the face of great tragedy there are people that bring hope to this world.

I will never forget in the vast blizzard that kindness...

The frustration of missing out on an online sale pales in comparison to standing in line for hours only to watch some brodawg fucktards line cut 5 minutes before the sale starts.

I constantly miss out "rare" beers cause I refuse to wait in line for hazy beers or shitshows but I'm not bitching about it. You win some you lose some...

Amazing that there are still tools that are advocating the dumb line waiting game. If you want to 100% ensure you get a bottle, I'm sure you could afford to shell out some money for a grey market bottle, since you can waste 10 hours in line at a brewery on a whim.
