Also posted this in the history thread, but I have been working on a Dark Lord Day history wiki site. It is still a work in progress in some areas, but hopefully people find this to be a useful resource.

Has anyone noticed that the ticket site says a variant of Dark Lord is NOT guaranteed? It may be you end up with two vintage bottles of Dark Lord, instead.

This could already be going down as the worst Dark Lord Day ever...Hopefully they have enough variants and it is just there for an option for people who say "But I don't want a Biggleswade or Temeculon 3000"

Those better be like 2008 DL vintages....

Funny you should mention that, because there was no rain in Tampa, and the cardboard Huna carriers were way more heavy duty than the DL ones, but there were still a number of disasters with bottles slipping right out. I think it was dependent on the carrier being assembled perfectly. If it came undone it basically opened up for insta-Huna-cide.

Moral of the story: always cradle your babies properly.

No doubt! I immediately transferred the bottles into my backpack.

You'd think the wording would be "choice of," in that case. Instead they say, "will not be guaranteed."

Maybe it's just for liability in the event a fork lift knocks over a rack and crushes variants. It's not like they can just brew more up.

    Hope it doesn't escalate to:
Dark Lord Variant not guaranteed. May be replaced by 2 vintage Dark Lords.
2 vintage Dark Lord's not guaranteed. May be replaced by 4 yum yums....

I was right there when this one happened. I have pictures of it as well... did you take this picture or did you get it off line? That might actually be my picture... :stuck_out_tongue:

In years past, I've placed a plastic bag right on the table for the guy to put the carrier in. Then it went right in the backpack. The carrier is basically made from the same material as Hallmark cards.

That guy was in that trash can for a good half hour and usually further in than that. A DLD legend.

That's weird that the etix site has this new variant disclaimer up but the main DLD site doesn't.

I noticed this today on the ticket site. I have never been, thinking about trying for tix but not sure.

Curious - is this a deal breaker for anyone else? I've read a lot of posts in the idea of "you go for the event itself and the variants" - if the latter isn't guaranteed, could change it a bit.

I'm honestly thinking about it. It's also a pretty shitty move to pull at the eleventh hour less than a day out. This would be year 6 for me.

People went before guaranteed variants were a thing for a lottery chance at variant... why wouldn't they still?

Just something new to bitch about.

But people weren't paying $180 before, were they? Last year was the first year the price went up to $200, and variants were guaranteed. Before, wasn't the ticket just to get into the fest?
