    But hype is soooo delicious.

I'm posting this in a couple threads, but:

Bitter Pops is having a 20% off all beer sale tonight and tomorrow (tomorrow realistically, by the time you read this). I grabbed a bottle of Vlad the 2nd Vanilla (BA stout) and a 6-pack of Krankshaft, but to stay on topic they've got Hubbard's Fresh Simcoe for buy one get one half off, and stuff like HB's I Want to Believe among other things (also the last Marz ChIPA). Worth a look.

Bringing back the NEIPA name discussion for a minute... I just saw in the New England regional discussions someone refer to it as "New Era IPA" referring to TH/TR IPAs. I thought that had a nice ring to it.

While heady/focal/crusher are all good, I would not include them in the same category as TH/TR (even though TH/TR were probably inspired by heady).

Oh yeah, I definitely don't consider them the same. I think I actually prefer Focal and MAYBE Heady to the majority of NE IPAs because of their balance, but I look at the Alchemist's IPAs as a midway point between a more traditional IPA and an NE IPA.

It's the real deal, easily one of the best I've ever had. I traded for a Check 1, 2 while I was there too, so I'm in for a great night!

SSS is exceptional. Picked up 3 bottles..
Initially I thought about trading one but decided to give one to a good buddy that I know will appreciate it and split the last with another friend (I downed a first one solo).

    Forgot to post the follow-up.

It's crushes any other offering of the NE Style out of this area. It even leaves Juicy in the dust, which was my absolute favorite until tonight. So glad I traded for this today!

Seems like the trend right now is: All the random outside-Chicago breweries start doing NE IPAs and make a name for themselves, while most of the big guys in Chicago refuse.

Probably the only time I've been salty (beer-wise) to live in Chicago proper. :stuck_out_tongue:

I get what you are saying, but the big establish city breweries don't need to jump on the hype train when they have an established reputation for good beer and a loyal following. I wish they would too.

Oh yeah, I know. I'm just saying it's annoying, not that I don't understand where they're coming from.

On the other hand, jumping on the trend is giving some of these guys BIG boosts in popularity (Mikerphone for example...hell, how often has Forbidden Root been mentioned outside NE stuff?), so the big guys better not sleep on this shit forever (not that I don't love their beer).

At least FFF tried their hand in the style - at the same time, it's FFF and they don't care if we liked it or not...

I don't understand why a big Chicago brewer wouldn't put out taproom only trials of a NEIPA. The only argument I understand is the shelf life is not great + going through a distributor isn't ideal for the style. So I understand why they won't brew and distribute huge amounts of it.

But why not experiment with one off batches and taproom only with no to-go options to see what their core customer base thinks. They already experiment with a ton of other styles, why not IPAs?

I think we'll see some experimentation from the big guys soon. When I was at the Straight Jacket release a guy from Revolution was talking with me about how they were trying to gauge whether or not they should do an NEIPA

Citra Cryo? Isn't that what people do when the NE IPA isn't what they'd hoped?

The Corridor & Provision NE IPA isn't ready for prime time. Tastes of alcohol and bile...Nonetheless, beautiful space, their flagship IPA is solid, and I don't know of any breweries that have a greater female to male ratio of customers...if you're single and want to find a girl who likes craft beer that's probably the place to hang out.
