Am I the only one that doesn't like lactose IPAs?

As the title says, I don't care for them. I have had smoosh and Legen-dairy strawberry IPA and thought the lactose made it entirely too sweet. Am I alone in this?

I haven't had the bad luck to try one yet, but doubt i would enjoy it.

This sounds like the kind of thing that will only be ordered by people who are inclined to love the concept in the first place, so that may help to create the illusion that nobody else dislikes them as much as you seem to.

I really enjoy the Tired Hands Milkshake IPA's. I've had probably 10-15 different variants and none of them are overly sweet at all. Some are better than others, but with the addition of lactose and vanilla, I find that it does accomplish the feat of having a milkshake consistency and taste, which I enjoy. Certainly not an IPA I'm the traditional sense, but to each his own.

I despise them because I am lactose intolerant. This is definitely something that should be clearly labeled on product...

See that is what I can't get my head around, I understand to each his own, but the thickness and sweetness of a milkshake in an IPA makes no sense to me. Maybe a cream ale or a stout but not for an IPA where I think mild to heavy bitterness with tropical fruit or pine flavor for a taste profile.

They definitely aren't for everyone... I'd say a majority of my friends who have not had them enjoy their uniqueness when they have them for the first time. I dunno- I love the milkshake series- super tasty and creative

Definitely creative and unique. I have some friends that love them and it is cool to see what one can do with beer production

Schlalfy made one a few years ago that was very good. Able to get nice body and keep the ABV below 6% (the lack of which makes other session IPAs seem watery). It does not add very much perceptible sweetness but it is very smooth on the palate.

Not that I'm crazy about them but they are not all milkshakes like you think. Proclamation had Simcow
With Simcoe, lactose and hibiscus. For sure unique and no "milkyness" at all. A nice dry herbal finish with a creamy body.
    Not bad.

Why would you want a thicker body in a cream ale?

People expect cream ales to be creamy because the name is cream ale. Cream soda is creamy so why isn't cream ale.

Most people don't know the history of cream ales where they are really just ales mimicking an American Light Lager.

I'm sure there's some misconception. But even if cream ales were intended to be creamy, I find it funny if someone thats okay with that would be grossed out about adding body to an IPA.

A heavy addition of oats are pretty popular in IPAs right now and no one seems to take offense to it.

Never had one, and I don't care for the sound of it. Lactose can be great in a stout, but thick and sweet are not adjectives that I associate with a good IPA.
