    always seems flat and lifeless

having a can of sierra nevada pale ale and it doesn't seem the same, flat

seems typical for "craft" type can beers......

is it in my head or is it in the can??

will stick to bottles and draft from now on

Unless your drinking SNPA out of the can ,not from a glass it's in your head!

Dont drink from the can. Pour it in a glass, let it aerate and let the carbonation work. I bet it will be better

it's in your head, the wife and I just finished a 6-pack of CCB Jai Alai that was just canned yesterday and it was FAR from flat. Actually we both thought it tasted outstanding and quite possibly better then it has from the bottles (also super fresh so that plays a role as well). Cans are cool in my book.

Canned beer is terrific. Especially when fresh.
U must have gotten a bad batch or have too many fillings.

I had this stuck in my head too. Then I tried a Dale's Pale.

    Deviant Dales for the win!

In all seriousness it's in your head. Sierra Nevada does some pretty intense research on their products. Look into them and their twist off caps if you want more info.

I've had a week long on going discussion on how Ten Fidy should be in 16oz nitro cans. That would be awesome...and the end of my productive life.

The can of Santa Fe Imperial Java Stout I'm currently drinking (poured into my 512 pint glass) is incredibly tasty and certainly not flat.

If you have seen canning vs bottling lines, I can actually imagine a low volume canning process (I recently saw one that fills two at a time and seals two at a time after the tops are hand set) resulting in lower carbonation if the operator's timing is off. But an automated canning line such as what SN is almost certain to have? I cant imagine them building a system that resulted in any appreciable difference.

Im sure youve seen the discussions - if they get it in the can well, it is way more stable and safe. The only trick is getting it in the can well.

I would also say it is easier to get a lot of turbulence and chugging when pouring the beer with a can. Be patient and careful when you pour. Ive recently seen the gimmick du jour for Miller Lite - the have a little "anti glug" tab on the opposite end of the can top. While Im not interested in facilitating effortless chugging of Miller Lite, I had thought something like that would make pouring a craft beer into a glass a bit better.

Never had a Sierra Nevada in the can...To be honest it's been a while sense I bought a canned beer. Don't have a problem with them, just never really went back after bottles. But I do agree with the post mentioning the batch you have....may be a bad one. As for myself, finishing a Stone Pale Ale.....About to crack open a SCHLAFLY Kolsch when I'm done. Just finished watching a good College football game, and waiting on the late game.

I only drink bottled beer because that way I can't taste the part that is worth 10 cents in Michigan.

Next time you are in Chicago, fresh Daisy Cutter poured into a glass. Perception adjusted.
