I just ordered a lb. each of Huell Melon, Idaho 7, Ekuanot and Hallertau Blanc hops and am very excited to try them in my hoppy beer recipes. Are there any new(ish) hops out there that people love using in their hop-forward beers?
Lets keep the Mosaic, Citra, Galaxy, Nelson, etc. out of the conversation.
I am curious about Jarrylo and Ariana if anyone has experience using them.

Mosaic is new to me. But since you don't have interest in that... I just used el dorado for the first time. I used it in a blend of hops, but it really adds a candy flavor to the beer I have it in. I will be using it in a smash just to see what it does. I have been thinking about doing a pils with hallertauer blanc this summer, possibly a saison also. I had a smash with idaho 7 and was unimpressed. That hop belongs in a belgian. It has an herbacious component that seems to clash with IPA.

@drewbage did you ever get a chance to use idaho 7 in a saison?

Have not yet. Used it in a NE IPA when I had a chance.

Making a NEIPA today with just Kohatu and Denali. Only used Denali once before with Simcoe and Citra and didn't care for the combo. Hoping this one is better. Never used Kohatu before.

I recently kegged an Idaho 7 single-hop pale ale. Big tropical fruit and berries. Reminds me of Juicy Fruit gum. Keg is going fast.

I used Hallertau Blanc in a blonde ale last year and it gave it a weird honey dew melon and white grape flavor. Not sure I'd use it again in any kind of American ale.

I believe Ekuanot is the new name for Equinox and I'd love to try some in an IPA. Would also like to get my hands on some Eureka after trying it in a Westbrook single hop IPA last year.

I have a Ekuanot (I still call it Equinox) IPA in my primary. It is in the dry hopping stage and I will be bottling it in another couple of days.

The only commercial beer I had that featured this hop was one brewed by Sierra Nevada; a one off beer. I wish they would make this beer again.

Does anybody know why they changed the name of this hop?

    Cheers!

Ekuanot or Equinox had a name change because there was a trademark dispute with a brewery.
You've probably had more beers with Equinox as the featured hop--Ruthless Rye, for example, featured Equinox as the primary dry hop addition (back when it was still listed as experimental).
In fact, we use it a lot: the Black IPA in the 4-way IPA pack the upcoming River Ryed from our forthcoming Party Pack variety pack uses it, and countless one-off beers.

Bill, I have not had any of the beers you mention in your post but I will redouble my efforts.

The Sierra Nevada Harvest Single Hop IPA - Equinox Hops was a glorious beer that I greatly enjoyed. Even though I am not a fan of the big bottle format I bought several bottles of this beer. I even had the pleasure of drinking a draft cup of this beer that was poured by Ken Grossman at Sierra Nevada Beer Camp beer festival.

    Cheers!

Wow, I sort of forgot about that beer. If I remember correctly, I liked it too. We'll have some additional single-hop beers coming out in 201, so we may be able to revisit it.

I'll report back for sure. Entering it into a good size (40+ IPA entries) local comp too for good measure.

Just brewed an APA with Vic Secret and Ella hops. Can't speak for them individually, but can confirm the combo is very tasty. They both have relatively high total oil content, similar if not higher than Citra, though not quite as high as Galaxy, so there is a definite "dank" for lack of a better word, or resinous character. The flavor and aroma are very orange forward going into pineapple territory with an interesting floral note. Almost like orange blossom honey.

I've used Denali in a Belgium. It's a major pineapple bomb. I liked it. Going to use again in a Brett C pale ale. I think it would go nice with the pineapple notes from the Brett.

I'm a big fan of eureka I think it used to be called expiremental pine fruit I've used it for 3 batches I think it's similar to simcoe but super unique at the same time pine fruit is a great description. Either way it has become one of my favorites very quickly I subbed it for simcoe in my cascadian black ale and it was amazeballs

I found Kohatu fruity in an artificial way in a smash pale ale. I read afterwords someone describing it as fruity pebbles and couldn't agree more let me know how it turns out. Haven't used Denali yet

Local brewery odd13 used it in a NEIPA SMaSH and I thought it was ok, but out of place for the style.
