this is California law only. you don't have to be a member of a club to buy alcohol. its an old law in response to speakeasies during prohibition

Might not be special when compared to all the other beers out there but it is something that people will buy by an entire case of and these shops just want to make sure to make it accessible to their customers.

In this case, it is just simple demand and not rarity.

Stopped by Costco in Los Angeles. No cases of KBS (Item #1149158) were ordered for the entire LA region by the regional buyer. Plenty were ordered for the Bay Area and (strangely) Reno, though.....

Got some Parabola at the Bevmo in Irvine; they still had a few left. I also picked up some KBS at the Total Wine in Irvine - I had to ask the guy and he had it behind the counter at the help desk. I'm guessing there's some more but I didn't see.

La Bodega in Riverside got it today. They still have Parabola, Bravo, and Waldo among other things.

While KBS isn't the beez neez, its nice to have a decent bourbon barrel aged beer I can open, with no sweat off my back. Its not like I'm opening a $40 bottle mocha Wednesday or any of my whalez. It sucks when I only have "rare" or more "valuable" or limited bba beers, that I dont want to open, and no bba shelf beers to pop

Same here, I only got a case and a half, but that's still 36 bottles.... and somehow I'm all out.

Don't waste your money, fellas. I'm sipping on one now, and its boozy and not good at all. I've had better none BA stouts recently. Get some burnt coffee grounds, pour some bourbon and half a regular old stout, like something from Karl Strauss. Pour it all in french press and press it. Drink that, and thats what this tastes like. As it warms, it gets bit more drinkable...but this is a major flop. For all the hype, it is very disappointing. Use that money and get some Parabola, or a shelfie like Big Bad Baptist. I get that "Bitter beer face" with every sip.

No. I had it last year. It wasn't this bad. Like I have posted before, we did a side by side with Big Bad Baptist in 2016, and we thought BBB was superior. Not by a lot, though. If it was this bad, I'd say it wasn't even in BBB's class. Call me crazy, but I cracked open a Tovarish a couple days ago, and Tovarish>>>>>>>>>>>>KBS '17

    North SD County Update:

Parabola is all over the place in the Carlsbad/Vista/Oceanside area today (Friday). Places with Parabola include Texas Liquor, Country Wine and Spirits, as well as the Oceanside and Vista Bevmos.

KBS was much harder to find with most places sold out. I did find an outrageously-priced four pack at Harbor Liquors in Oceanside (which I purchased) and they still had some left.

some received them on wednesday 9limited) bu for some reason even though they had ordered a few cases, they received less then what was expected. For some odd reason, founders was stingy with the order that were placed (don't know why) Thursday majority of them were received down here (south) Funny that some people are saying it's tasting like shit yet, it's still selling.

What I find hard to believe is that despite have more than enough at the brewery & celebrating their kbs week, why they stiff CA on this release? perhaps the distributors don't meet the allocations of orders received or they're being jerks about it. who knows. thus far, it seems both costco (if applicable to stores here in san diego) & bevmo (with their membership) seems to be the most inexpensive place to purchase whereas others seem to nickel 7 dime your ass. BDBS @ $7.50? hell no.

I suspect this is very true, I can't imagine their beer is selling that well in California, after the initial roll out, I do not buy much of their beers and almost none of their regular offerings. Their IPA's are average at best. Most of their barrel stuff is also very average outside of Backwoods bastard and KBS.

their regular porter and imperial stout are very good. Outside of those, I agree with the above.

I love the regular Breakfast Stout. At 8.3 it's regularly drinkable and is always in my fridge.
