Who actually brews New Castle?

I've been under the impression that New Castle is brewed by The Caledonian Brewery until my brother-in-law said Heineken was the brewer. Then I noticed Ratebeer.com has Heineken UK listed in parentheses next to Caledonian Brewery. Even the Heineken UK website has New Castle Brown Ale listed as one of their specialty brands.

Can anyone clear this up? Is Heineken just a contract brewer of New Castle or is it indirectly brewed by Molson/ Coors (the parent company of Heineken)?

Heineken owns the brand, having bought the UK portion of Scottish & Newcastle when they and Carlsberg carved up that company. Newcastle Brown Ale is brewed at the John Smith Brewery in Tadcaster (and the city is noted on the US labels). The other Newcastle beers are brewed at Caledonian and, under contract, by Thomas Hardy's.

Heineken UK's corporate address is the Caledonian Brewery's in Scotland- like John Smith's also acquired with the S&N purchase.

Heineken is the third largest brewing company in the world -after AB-InBev and SABMiller - it is not owned by MolsonCoors.

Looks like Molson sells Heineken but does not own it...

    "
Heineken is sold in Canada by Molson and is one of the country's leading European lagers."

Newcastle is brewed at the John Smiths Brewery in Tadcaster, Yorkshire, England (since 2010). Heineken own this as well as another 125 breweries.

No, it's listed as one of their "Partner Brands"- as noted above, Molson imports Heineken into Canada. On that list, MC also doesn't own a number of those brands such as Amstel (Heineken), Corona (partially owned by AB-InBev), Mickey's, Peroni, Pilsner Urquell (all SABMiller), etc.

MolsonCoors in the international brewing company, the result of a 2005 merger of the US and Canadian brewers.

In 2008, they and SABMiller merged their US divisions into a joint venture known as MillerCoors.
