We are pleased to announce the next beer in our Barrel-Aged Series and, get ready, because this one is a doozy:

Here you have what could be the first malt liquor worthy of a glass. Typically a slighted style, we thought we would class it up with a stay in the wood and a healthy dose of dry-hopping. A huge hit of corn gives this one a smooth sweetness while its time spent aging in bourbon barrels will give you reason to share. Be warned: this one’s a pry-off, not a twist-off

DKML will be available in 4-packs of 12oz bottles and 750mL bottles beginning in July through the month of August. It will be available throughout our entire distribution network, which now includes 45 states!

Oh boy... I'll be a guinea pig and test it, but an aged malt liquor doesn't sound very good.

Dear Founders - experiments are cool & all, but I think Im in good company saying that most would rather you put out some of your old greats:

    - Doom
    - Better Half
    - and this doesnt need mentioning, but CBS.

Doom is confirmed for later this year and CBS is about as close to confirmed as it can get without being official.

If I can find an individual bottle, I'll try it. I haven't enjoyed anything from the Barrel Aged series from Founder's though. That said, I haven't drank any KBS from this year. I sure hope this is a good one, otherwise I'm not sure I'll continue to pour $15+ into 4 packs.

The butt hurt is strong in this thread. Guess I've actually enjoyed the barrel-aged series so far but maybe that's the homer in me. Glad I'll finally get to tick a malt liquor :grinning:

If I'm conceptualizing this correctly, it sounds amazing. You all do know Bourbon is by law more than 50% corn right?

If comes out syrupy and barleywine like, with some corn sweetness balanced with NW hops, and aged in a Bourbon barrel, this has tons of potential.

The second I saw this announced I figured a lot of people would be turned off by it, but I don't completely understand why. Yes, when most people think of a malt liquor, they think of things like Colt 45 or Old English 800, but those are made for the purpose of getting drunk for cheap. A company like Founders is not making this with that intent. Really, malt liquor is just an American strong ale, and if it were referred to this way, I think less people would be uninterested.

For the last hour I kept hearing this scraping noise...then I clicked on this thread and realized it was the sound of Founders Haters sharpening their knives...

Didn't they do this before as a draft only release under a different name? Summer Sizzler?

I love KBS, and enjoyed Project PAM. But I thought Lizard of Koz and Frootwood were undrinkable.

I tried Beer Thousand from Dogfish which sounds like a similar style although it wasn't barrel aged. I was not a fan.

This is how I imagine it, like a barleywine, a style I generally don't enjoy.

While Founders has an occasional strike out, they mostly hit home runs in my opinion. I'll try this with an open mind.
