    I think 125 is for a 16 oz can!

I reached for a Coors Light pounder in my buddy's fridge last night while enjoying a bacon cheese burger hoagie and some baseball. Great three-way IMHO.

I ate the hoagie, then reached for 5 more pounders as the Pirates coasted to a 7-1 loss.

Calories are the devil, and the Buccos were terrible, but i went to bed happy and satisfied.

    Cheers Jack

I split those DIPAs with my wife. But then we have another. :grimacing:

I am on a diet, and I've cut beer to weekends, only, and maybe 4 beers the whole week. I will start exploring lower calorie offerings though to get me through those summer block parties. Some ciders are pretty light too as I understand.

I would go for an ultra-light sour like Lindeman's Kriek or Peche.

Not the best strategy. Alcohol effects the liver and the body will go for the alcohol before anything else so you can retain the fat...so with some bodies you could essentially reduce food, keep alcohol levels the same and if they are on the higher side, still gain weight. Alcohol is a bit of a different beast and relying on just the calorie counting alone is not a good idea.

Look for products that say "session" beer...

They're all relatively low abv/calories but still "craft"

My advice is to replace food calories (not all, just unnecessary carbs/snacks) with beer and increase your physical activity. That way you don't have to sacrifice beer. There are several low abv/calorie beer options I enjoy, but many of them are not all available to you, or me unfortunately.

    Less beer, more exercise.

If he works out (more if he's already exercising), eats better, and takes in the same amount of calories from beer, he will lose weight. Reason being is that he will burn calories from working out and probably not take in as many calories from food if he sharpens his diet up. Calories in vs. calories out is scientifically proven.

Hey man - sorry about you dilema! You're in Houston - as am I - so I'd ask if you've considered Bombshell Blonde or Saint Arnold Lawnmower? Those SEEM like they'd be low in caleries. Pilsner Urquell has been mentioned but thats also a good option - my girlfriend seems to really enjoy those.

Hey also - I noticed you're new to the site (obviously not new to craft though). Because you're looking for a localized response, you may want to consider posting something like this in the "Southwest" forum. Lots of great BA's here in our region that always seem to know whats-up (@aschwab , @donspublic , et al.)

Miller Lite is the only "light" beer that comes to mind that has some decent flavor, my second would be Coor's Light. I am sure there are plenty of more craftier beers that may fit your caloric intake though. Good luck on the weight loss, I will put some money down on you. Sorry that damn Vegas thing, just got off work and all! Seriously good luck in your weight loss and I hope you find your beer alternative.

Well I think he has gotten some solid advice here. Just last nite I had an All Day IPA (Founders 147 calories) and found it very satisfying. I think most of us older dudes here are walking that balance of drinking and eating and not letting it get out of control. I have maintained by not allowing myself to have anything to drink if I haven't walked the dogs, or walked a minimum of 5 miles for the day. I kind of look at it as my reward. If you are trying to lose weight then make sure your beer consumption is part of your calorie ticking. Also just checked and myfitnesspal has MetaModern IPA (Oasis) down at 135 calories, that is a fantastic beer for the ABV.

The one "trick" I employ is to have my one beer a day about an hour before dinner. Seem to help me avoid eating too much at that meal. It also helps me sleep better which becomes a problem for many as the miles accumulate. Please be careful, my attempts to do this with breakfast have proven ill conceived and have the wrong effect.

For readily available commercial beers I would go with Guinness draught, Heineken Light, or Yuengling Light

I've checked out a few dozen of different light brew brands and found them to be around 95 -105 calories so I just round them off to 100 for a 12 oz serving.

Regular beers average around 100 for an 8 oz serving but so does cola, fruit juice, milk, etc. So basically I think in 8 oz portions and use that as the measure when calculating how many calories I drink (any combination) daily.

I'll admit something to you guys: Coors Light has been my "go to" beer for many, many years prior to going craft. I always felt that it had the best flavor of the macro "light" beers. I always felt that Bud and Miller were rather awful in comparison. I'm glad to see Coors Light being more common around these days. Where it used to be a distant 3rd to Bud and Miller, I feel like it's maybe #2 after Bud now, just anecdotally. It helps that Coors Light also has a nostalgia for me. It is literally the very first beer I ever drank. My roommate in college offered me a cold one out of his fridge.... the silver bullet, 12oz can. I obliged and drank it... history was made!

Thanks for the suggestions! Funny you should mention it, but I have a Saint Arnold Lawnmower sitting by my side right now as I type this.... I'm sort of widdling down the beers in my fridge. I am down to just a very small amount. Diet officially begins Monday. I have a special treat -- O'Dell Myrcenary waiting for my first cheat day or however I decide to do it. I'm thinking limit weekday beers and mostly have them for weekends. Saint Arnold has been a Godsend, though. Since the demise of Karbach to AB-InBev, I've found that Saint Arnold is putting out even better beers. Their latest ICON green bottle (El Dorado IPA) is absolutely superb. Maybe the best (non-double) IPA I've had.....

Thanks all! I have some ideas in mind.

Oh, one last thing, someone mentioned Lone Star Light.... Please wash your mouth out with soap! That's a curse here in Texas. Loan Star isn't Texas beer! They were bought out years ago and are known to be right there with Natty Light for quality and flavor.

My high abv beer consumption has gone up over the past year with the arrival of kid #2. I have a classroom full of 8-9 year olds and then come home to a 3 and 1 year old. I don't have much time to sit back and relax, so a good strong beer or two is my ticket nowadays. I hit the gym 3 days a week for weights, 5am on Friday's for early morning cardio, and then jog twice a week pushing two kid's in a stroller. I've dropped about 25lbs in the past year. Running really let my last bit of extra weight fall off. I always reward myself with a good beer or two after a long run. No workout, no beer. Also, kids make you drink more.
