Chicagoland NE IPAs (2018)

I prefer stratus to NW Gummyies but Ratwheels doesn't-

We are doing Forbidden Root SJ, Stratus, Mikerphone hops, Juice Pants 4, Marz ChiPA all tonight.. going to be fun... we'll see what comes out!

 

id say little less bitter than gummies i have had a little more hazier to be honest, id take stratus over the three gummies i have had, though do enjoy the gummies as well

Very comparable - the latest batch of Stratus definitely upped it's game in the flavor department. I thought the last few previous batches looked the part, but fell short on the taste. Instead of tasting just hoppy, I got much more citrus-y flavors from this batch. That's just one man's opinion though

 

Thought this was just a'ight. Definitely falls more on the Vermont side of the style in terms of look, feel, bitterness. So others leaning that way may like it more than I did. The passion fruit was more subtle than expected, which I appreciated, but felt the aroma and mouthfeel were a bit lacking. I'd probably pick up some cans if I saw them on the shelf as it was tasty, but wouldn't go out of my way for it.

All this Stratus talk made me go get another 4 pack!

 

You forgot Mosaic Gummy and Let's Gummy.

And yes, I do prefer the Gummy's to Stratus but it's by a narrow margin.

Having a stratus right now. This has come a long way since the first batch in flavor and haziness. Well done. Same mouthfeel as cirrus with tons more flavor

when you say binnys downtown do you mean on Grand? I was there at like 3 and there were probably 4 cases left on the floor next to cirrus. I can see it selling that quick.

 

Sorry, yes the one on Grand, I was there the night before and they just had a couple 4packs of cumulus next to the cirrus. I thought the stratus had come earlier but I guess it wasn't there yet.

The beer of the night was an IPA from Washington called Fuzz by Structures Brewing, which beat every single Chicagoland brew.

The beers we had: 160 Swiftly, Heavy as a Feather, Let's Gummy, Mosaic Gummy, ChIPA w/wine, Juice Pants 4, Stratus, Snooze Juice, Death by Snu Snu, Unfiltered Sculpin, and Born Yesterday.

There was definitely some palate fatigue by the end but I would put them in the following groupings, from best to worst.

Death by Snu Snu, Juice Pants 4, and Snooze Juice were the clear winners for me with Death by Snu Snu being my favorite.

Stratus, Let's Gummy, Mosaic Gummy, and Born Yesterday were just a small notch below.

Heavy as a Feather, Unfiltered Sculpin, and ChIPA w/wine were next.

160 Swiftly was essentially a drain pour for me, especially in this setting, where we had so many beers to drink.

 

Was this Born Yesterday or Born Again Yesterday?

 

Yes, big difference. I would love to get my paws on some fresh BY bottles.
